In that case, if you haven't done a post on them yet: the anthropologists Margaret Mead and Ruth Benedict are two of my fav historical figures & inspirations and they were essential to the development of modern cultural anth and also the sexual revolution in the 60s and they were like super in love for a while there despite both being married. I know at least some of Mead's letters to Benedict are available and some of them are stupid sweet

I have lived in England all my life but I’ve never been to Scotland or either of the Irelands (I went to Wales when I was too young to remember it so that doesn’t count either). 11. I don’t like coffee or tea or Coke. 12. I would kill to be able to sing. 13. I still have 2 baby teeth cause the adult teeth never arrived. 14. I have written a suicide note before (not recently dw). 15. My hair started going silver when I was 15. 16. I hate doing maths but I’m quite interested in the theory of it. 17. I love it when people do my makeup (I’m hopeless at it). 18. I used to be obsessed with the classic Whose Line Is It Anyway. 19. I like watching films with the subtitles on. 20. I love watching horror movies but I can’t because noone will watch them with me.

The “Draco in leather pants treatment” comparison is probably one of the most accurate phrases I’ve ever heard.

People are so hyper-on-the-lookout for 'romanticisation' of villains that for some reason many don't notice that a lot of the guys who get this kind of patronizing apologetics share a lot of traits. They tend to be white or interpreted-as-white, they tend to have a kind of evilness that originates from interpersonal scorn rather than systematic pressures (they can have both but the personal reason is often emphasized and the latter ignored), and they are often at least framed as attractive to straight white girls. Sometimes by other fans, sometimes by the media they originate in.

But villains that are girls, villains that aren't white, villains that aren't conventionally attractive or framed by other fans as attractive (Snape isn't pretty but you'd never be able to tell so from many fans)... they don't get this treatment. Villains that aren't neurotypical, especially-- unless they're sufficiently white-seeming and/or attractive somehow-- then you get 'magical insanity healing' stories. 

People seem to get mad rather than elated when there's stories about them making other choices or turning away from their evil choices and taking the consequences. People begin calling "romanticisation of evil" when just like off their other elbow they've got apologetics for Loki going strong. When they've got apologetics for Hannibal going strong.
