looking for animal references on image searches has always kind of sucked but it's much worse after AI image generation technology has begun to actually past muster, which is why i always just go straight to inaturalist. can't recommend this highly enough. you get to both find out about niche species you've never even heard of and also see some really good photographs like this one

earlier this week Twitter user ppuccin0 tweeted about a fashion article that advised against tops with large floral patterns, saying the wearer was in danger of looking like a "ロマンティックおばさん," or a "romantic auntie." the tweet went viral with many agreeing that a "romantic auntie" sounded like a very nice thing to aspire to be, and some even posted illustrations or photos tagged with the trend

The USA is not really facing 'transformation into a surveillance state', because it already was that to some degree. I think it is facing more of a redistribution of surveillance resources.
There are some forms of surveillance that are widely considered fine. We just tend not to call them surveillance.
When a highway monitors its level of traffic, or public transportation monitors ridership, that gathers information on groups of people.
When wastewater is tested for disease, that is also attached to groups of people by location.
Audits and investigations into wage theft, labor violations, and other forms of corporate crime often require external surveillance because internal reports are likely untrustworthy.
Appraising the level of need for homeless support in a city requires research about the homeless population.
Police body cams and other attempts to enforce accountability are an attempt at direct video surveillance, for better or worse.
These forms of surveillance have been tiny investments in comparison to the ways our government has invaded privacy in the past, and the monstrous apparatus it's trying to push through now. They're also small potatoes next to the private sector's ability to gather data for profit and social engineering. But they potentially have the ability to make a huge impact because of how critical the information is for ordinary people.
One goal of our current administration is to remove the ability to gather information on certain topics and increase the ability to gather information on other topics that it chooses.
When you have less information available, especially about groups of people, fewer decisions can be made. There is less understanding of why or upon what basis to make a decision at all. 'Fewer things come up.' It is easier to lie about an absence of information the larger it becomes.
When you have more information available, especially about groups of people, more decisions can be made. There is more understanding of why or upon what basis to make decisions. 'More things come up.' It is easier to justify a body of information the larger it becomes.
The information also doesn't have to be true. The resources from gathering accurate information can be redistributed to propaganda or redistributed in a way that persecutes or even engineers groups of people for political advantage.
What is happening is that no matter how bad it was before, even more of the USA's ability to 'observe what is real' has been shifted to 'making (someone's preferred) stuff real.'
Those responsible always saw it that way: like scientists, social workers, road engineers, healthcare professionals have had the TV all morning and now it's their turn to decide what we as a country 'watch.' They want to watch Fox News.
BJ has a very clear understanding of Objectives unfortunately he lacks that level of comprehension when it comes to tactics methods procedures etc. Thus: his Behaviors.

Media Virtue discussion, in most cases*, has a lot in common with anti-science discussion where outsiders get hung up on the directly stated claims without seeing those through the lens of social participation.
Regardless of how sincere a flat earther is, 'we can prove the earth is round' won't work on them. Instead, it's better to see them as defending their participation in a flat world. A flat world is one that is geocentric almost by default, because to be heliocentric and flat is even more physically impossible. A geocentric reality is unlikely to be older than the earth itself. To that perspective, there probably aren't other flat worlds out there in space... Participating in a reality where you're the focus is more pleasant for flat earthers. Our Sun is not even in one of the early generations of stars that we know about. For some people, that's terrifying.
Similarly, you're not going to do anything by 'debunking' that guy who thinks a superhero movie is immoral or too woke. He is not going to care about the characters in that movie he might like, he is not going to care that it's a 'normal' movie, and he is not going to want to hear about how you can interpret the movie safely inside his comfort zone either.
He is after the participation in a world where his ideas are right. He is seeking others to mass-roleplay that world, preferably without being reminded that it's an alternate universe.
The reason they do not want to directly admit (or sometimes, understand?) their claims aren't the point is pretty simple. The things they want to participate in are embarrassing and even pathetic if you say them out loud, which also limits where their participation can take place. Will you meet a flat earther at the club? I don't know, maybe. The salty part of me wants to say they'll find it hard if the DJ puts on Daft Punk or ATC**. Whatever is true, it would be hard for that person to BE a committed flat earther if they could only go to the club, and not to /r/flatearth.
But thinking openly and honestly about our own participation can help us. Rather than being pulled between different people's opinions on ways the media is 'bad,' or 'good,' qualities transferable to its audience, what do you bring to it? It is not always an easy question to answer when most media property owners would rather you be passive and leech off your bank account. Do you bring a cop shoes vibe to this? A punk spikes vibe? A free spirit vibe? What are you here to accomplish? What do you need to endure or interpret to do that?
* I am not talking about cases where media is direct propaganda or funds violation of human rights. ** I am also not responsible for what else plays in this hypothetical Y2K Eurodance Funk Club.
Whatever the hell is going on with Mitch McConnell, I'm seeing this as a preview of what they're inevitably gonna do with the other guy.
Just to be clear, I'm personally on team "the heatwave was the gates of hell opening for Mitch" (thank you for that one, Tennessee Brando). Cardiac arrest has a dreadfully low survival rate outside of hospitals, especially at his age, especially if CPR is delayed for even a minute. I will be genuinely surprised if he comes back from this and then I will start making necromancy jokes.
But boy wouldn't it be the most Mitch McConnell thing to ever, for him to obstruct his own senate seat and deny the will of the people of Kentucky, by refusing to vacate even in death.
Wow! I can't believe Mitch McConnell sacrificed Lindsey Graham to extend his un-life!
