🔮 Crystal Ball- What kind of future does your OC want to have? What would they do to make it real?
For Altai: For all that time he spent within the Temple, he really thought his life was going to begin and end within its walls. Now that he actually has freedom--to not just move about, but to choose what he wants to do with his time--he's definitely let his mind drift to thoughts of the future when he's idle.
I think he wants a family. I think he already has a family in the Scions, but he wants to like... actually confirm that? Is that the right phrasing? Like he wants to make them all a big dinner and sit down with them and eat without worrying about a sneak attack, without worrying about what tomorrow might bring. He wants there to be peace, not just for his final years on the star (however many he gets) but also for the future generations.
He wants to confess his feelings to Thancred. He knows it has to be done. He just isn't sure of the words yet. He really wants a future with Thancred in it. But at the same time, he's afraid that they might drift apart, especially as Altai ages. In his mind, Thancred is forever full of youth and vigor because he was afforded a kind of "freedom" that Altai never had--even though it came at the cost of being a street ruffian. And, of course, now he's known as a flirtatious bard, a man who cavorts with women near-daily. He's afraid that in Thancred's eyes, he's just an old man who can't let go of the ideals of youth. And that hurts even more than the idea of being rejected.
For Gaius: He hasn't really imagined a future. He does want a future--he does want to live now, despite all of the pain--if only to ease others' pain. There are people who came into his life that he can never have back, and he really wanted a future with those people. It's too late now for them--but not too late for him.
I think, in his simplest desires, he just wants to see everything the world has to offer. With his own eyes. Not through a crystal lens. There's so much out there to be discovered, and he wants to visit it all. He wants to find friendship in the strangest places. He wants to care and be cared for.
He does want to be loved, too. But he's struggling to determine if it can be found. If someone can look at him with love and without prejudice, like Minfilia did--and in a strange way, like Zenos has--he wants it. And he says he'd change just to have it--but deep down, a tiny voice inside of him begs him not to change for others. That if he can be himself--as horrifying as he may be--someone can still love him.
Both of them also still want to be around each other. Gaius and Altai love each other very much. More than friends, more than lovers, more than soulmates--not necessarily fated to meet, but by pure luck they did, and perhaps it's just by the good grace of the world that Gaius landed in Altai's hands.
