The Keeping of Secrets -- Yixing
As Ji Yeon swam around the shallow end of the pool, she couldn’t help but sigh at the sight of her friend Yixing who was currently floating on a floater.
"Yixing, you aren’t swimming again?" She asked curiously.
"No, you know how I am with water." He replied.
"About that, how come you never swim?" She questioned.
Ji Yeon had always meant to ask him but she never got the chance, considering that he never liked to talk about it. The last thing she wanted was hurt feelings. If it made him uncomfortable then she wasn’t the type to keep pestering him about it. Even though she told herself this, it finally got to a point where she needed to know. He knew everything about her and somehow managed to memorize everything she told him. A true gift, she thought.
"Do we have to talk about this now?" He bemoaned.
"Yes, Yixing. I’ve told you everything about me. Why can’t you do the same?"
"Because you know how I feel about touchy subjects like this." He stated.
"All I want to know is why it’s touchy. You know I’m not heartless. If you just tell me then I won’t bring it up again." She reassured him.
"I don’t want to tell you. Not today." His voice wavered.
Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion and her lips slightly parted.
Ji Yeon was the kind of person who kept her emotions to herself but she could feel that today wasn’t the case. Her emotions were on the verge of spilling out from the bottle she kept them bottled up in. She was always blatantly honest with him.
The fact that she liked him didn’t even play a part in her honesty. They were friends before her crush developed.
She felt as though telling him things that she felt were important was imperative. Anything that had an impact on her, she didn’t hesitate to tell him. She told him about how she was afraid of dogs and why. She told him about how she got bullied for her height when she was younger.
Both of these she liked to keep secret but spilled to him. She spilled her biggest secrets to him and he couldn’t even spare her a secret about himself. Ji Yeon was tired of his behavior and felt that if he was going to continue being secretive, then their friendship wouldn’t last.
"How long are you going to keep this from me?" She asked with just as much anger as she felt.
"For as long as I can."
"But why? I tell you everything!" She cried out.
"You can honestly say that you’ve told me everything? Every single thing?" He dared her to answer.
"Yes, well—"
"Well?" He raised a brow.
"I haven’t told you this one thing." She admitted.
"What is it?"
"Why should I tell you?"
She splashed some water around her in annoyance. Not at him, not at anyone in particular. She was just upset with the fact that he had the audacity to ask her what she was hiding from him. He was the one with secrets to tell. She could keep this one to herself. It wasn’t necessary for him to know.
Suddenly she thought of something.
"Let’s say it at the same time." She suggested.
"Say what?" He questioned.
"What we both need to spill. This works out in your favor because my answer might be louder than yours and I won’t hear yours. But at least by doing this, you’ll tell me."
"Deal."
"One, two, three." She counted down.
"I like you!" She told him.
"I’m a robot." He added quietly.
"What?" Her eyes widened.
"Did you really not hear me?"
"I heard you."
Her breathing hitched and her words caught in her throat. Robots weren’t real. What nonsense was he saying now? Both were silent for a period of time before he spoke up.
"Are you scared of me now? You don’t want to be friends anymore? Don’t worry, I understand. It’s only happened tons of times before. That’s why I didn’t want to tell you. I didn’t want you to leave me because I like you too. This is a feeling I’ve never felt before and I don’t want it to go away. I don’t want you to go away.” He choked up.
"Yixing," She said sympathetically. "It’s not going to make me think differently of you. I don’t exactly know what robots are capable of but I didn’t know you were a robot until now. So you’ve been doing something right. I’ve seen you as a normal human being, treated you as one and it’s going to take a lot to change what I think of you."
"You’re not making sense. I’m a robot. Steer clear away from me. I’m not good for you."
She attempted to get closer to him, only to have her hand slip from the ledge she was holding onto. She was originally holding onto the ledge because she was scared of what he was going to tell her. Every word that left his mouth resulted in her grasping the ledge tighter. She wasn’t expecting that.
Deep down inside, she was a little scared. Everything made sense now of course, like him being able to memorize whatever she told him. But now her hand was slipping from the edge. It happened so fast. One minute was talking to him and then suddenly she was sinking.
Her hand slipping up was unexpected. She couldn’t even think. Swimming was something that had left her mind. Darkness was all she could see and all she could think. That was until Yixing pulled her up and pushed her onto the concrete. She wondered why he was being rough but then it hit her that they were the only ones in the pool. Yixing saved her. Robots couldn’t come in contact with water. Her head was spinning.
The last thing she saw before her eyes shut again was Yixing floating on top of the water.

Hey guys I decided to rewrite this oneshot. The ending is different and basically the whole concept is different. Haha. I characterized the characters differently by giving the OC a name. Hope you guys enjoy this installment of the exo robot series. I have a couple more to fix and hopefully I’ll get them posted soon. To read the robot stories you can find it in the story sorter under the exo robot series line. :)
