Would you say exotic lair is a good channel to watch? Someone recommended it to me but I watched a couple of vids and while some things were interesting the guy seems to stress the hell out of the tarantulas all the time...
His videos are unnecessarily dramatic and I don't like how often his tarantulas seem to escape during rehousing. I've only had that happen once, and that was while I was trying to rehouse 6 slings at once. If your massive adult female tarantula escapes during a simple rehousing, you are doing something wrong.
I haven't watched his videos in a while, because I don't enjoy his personality, but looking at his channel real quick, his rehousing method is still bad.
1) Why are you outside, where your spider can bolt and get lost? 2) Why are you using your bare hands instead of a catch cup? 3) Why are you more concerned with holding your camera than caring for your animal? It doesn't matter how much you trust your tarantula, they are unpredictable and can get hurt very easily. Always be careful, for their safety.
His tarantula care is not horrible. His enclosures are fine. I just really dislike his personality, and I hate that he never has both hands free because he's too preoccupied with filming. Like, this? Frustratingly irresponsible.
For comparison, here's a video from when I rehoused my rear-horned baboon (C. darlingi) last year:
I'm still mad at myself for dropping the cup, but I was in a small, closed room with no obstacles or hiding places, I had both hands free, and I had two tongs with me, so I wasn't really worried.
