After landing cosmonauts were given apples for rehydration. The special request was made by Oleg Artemyev - a watermelon which was brought to him after landing! Image Credit: NASA/Bill Ingalls #nasa #russia #astronaut #cosmonaut #internationalspacestation #iss #station #Exp40 #kazakhstan
By @iss "“Eating breakfast and just trying not to make a mess." #Swanny Providing space flight crews with food that is safe, nutritious, and acceptable to the crew, while efficiently balancing appropriate vehicle mass, volume, waste, and food preparation time, is a multi‐phase effort that includes formulation of foods, testing of foods including sensory evaluation and microbiological analysis, packaging, launch manifests, and on-orbit preparation and consumption. NASA's food laboratory has about 200 different menu items. Crew members receive a standard menu, plus they custom select items for their bonus containers. The most popular dish is the freeze-dried shrimp cocktail served with horseradish‐infused powdered sauce, and the most popular beverage (excluding coffee of course) is lemonade.
