Smartsense structural system is the leading wafflemat foundation forming system for the single, multi family residential and commercial structures constructed on an expansive, rocky or compressible soils. Smartsense provide cost saving services without any structural failure.
Waffle Slab Construction is one of the leading construction services in the US these days. A waffle slab construction is very easy and quick when constructed under good supervision and care. Waffle Slab takes very less time than any other foundation systems on expansive soil. A waffle slab construction requires very less amount of concrete and steel which results in less carbon emission which makes it a nature-friendly foundation.
A Waffle Slab Foundation is one of the stiffest and versatile foundation system. It is an environmental friendly foundation as it uses very less amount of concrete, steel and doesn't require any soil preparation which results in less carbon emission and soil erosion. One of the major advantage of this type of foundation system is that there are void spaces between the soil and the coil caps which prevents any damage to the foundation due to the vertical movement of the soil.
The potential problem A non-expansive soil cap on top of expansive soil may not always stop expansion of the underlying expansive soil, or the resulting damaging effects of on the foundations and structures built on top of the soil cap. However, if the foundations built on top of the soil cap are designed to be rigid en

Effect of Garment Wastes on Swell-Consolidation Characteristics of Expansive Soil-Iris Publishers
Authored by Md Shariful Islam*
Expansive soil is available throughout the world. In semi-arid country like Bangladesh, this type of soil is found almost everywhere. Expansive soil is considered to be problematic due to its high swelling potential. This type of soil exhibits large volumetric changes when its water content changes. This is highly detrimental to civil engineering infrastructures. This experimental study investigates the effect of the inclusion of garment wastes into expansive soil on its swell-consolidation characteristics. Due to the rapid growth of garment industries in Bangladesh, a huge amount of garment wastes is produced every year. The use of such waste materials to improve the swell-consolidation characteristics would be significant. To determine the effect of the inclusion of garment wastes into expansive soil, one dimensional swell-consolidation tests were conducted in the laboratory. Two types of expansive soil collected from Godagari, Rajshahi and Gazipur, Dhaka were used in the study. Various proportion of garment wastes by weight of soil (0.5%, 1%, and 2%) were mixed with the expansive soil and the samples were subjected to one dimensional swell-consolidation tests. The test results show that the inclusion of garment wastes has significant effect on the swell-consolidation characteristics of expansive soil. It is noticed that the inclusion of garment wastes decreases the heave, swelling potentials and vertical swelling pressures of expansive soil.

Don't Let Expansive Soils Ruin Your Landscape
Don’t Let Expansive Soils Ruin Your Landscape
Expansive soils shrink and swell in response to soil moisture levels. Moving soil exerts tremendous pressure on paving, footings, and foundations.
How To Identify Expansive Soils
Landscape architects can design and build on sites with expansive soil if they get the right information and engineering guidance.
First, identify if the soil on your client’s site is expansive. There are a couple of…
