Expat Em goes hiking in Aberdeen!
On Sunday, I went on a short hike in a park called Aberdeen. There is a reservoir, which is where the great views came from! What I found is that it is pretty peaceful there. There was a group of 4 of us, and we really only saw 1 other person who was not from the area - the rest appeared to be locals.
Aberdeen is located about 45 mins by public transit from the PolyU dorms. We got to have a first glimpse of the outskirts of the city. Up until this point, I have been in the city center. There is a lot less diversity in this area of HK, which is not surprising. The streets are narrower, and majorly inclined. Somehow, the buildings are even MORE cramped together when they already were in the city center.
An interesting tid bit that I learned is that Hong Kong University is located up in this area. Aberdeen is located on the island, and HKU is right up on the mountain, WAY out of central Hong Kong. I thought this was an interesting way to have the college experience. Even when you are in the city, there is still an element of being isolated when you are that far out.
I will definitely be doing more hiking in the near future - there are some famous trails that I have yet to explore!
