Expectations | Shadison
“Up in bed, all alone wondering where you've been. Ten past three,
I know the club closed at two A.M. I've already been through about seven scenarios 'bout what it was that changed your mind. Knowing very well that you told me you'd come home, and it happens every time.”
Madison’s eyes scanned the audience, seeking out Shane. She wanted to look her dead in the eyes when she sang the next few lyrics. The sea of people was a blur to her. Nobody stood out from the crowd. Madison didn’t care about the celebrities clutching their chests in the front row as she debuted the song. Only one person caught her attention: Shane.
Her initial reaction to seeing her girlfriend was a smile; A genuine one. She did love Shane. She always would. The young starlet learned quickly there was nothing she nor Shane could do that would ever make her stop. Then she heard the lyrics she was singing, she remembered staying up all night writing the draft to this song with empty bottles of wine piling up with each new line that was scribbled out. She remembered her tears smudging the ink as they landed on her notebook paper. Her smile faded, her eyes locked with Shane’s.
The next morning articles would be written about the intensity in her eyes as she sang;
“Wish I had no expectations. I wish that I could get it through your head.
With no confrontation. I really wish we could talk about it instead.” She removed the microphone before harshly pushing the stand down: The subtlest way to express the anger boiling in her chest while still putting on a good show, and not completely breaking down on national TV.
“All these tears that I cry while I'm turned to the side and you're in the same fucking bed,” The audience roared at the raw emotion Madison sang that line with. “Wish I had no expectations, But I expect, you expect, we expect.”

Madison stumbled around backstage after the show looking for Shane. She had taken the time she had away from her girlfriend to drink herself into oblivion. Only having one drink while they sat in the audience together before her performance was utter bullshit. Madison knew it, and she was sure Shane did too. If she didn’t, she would be finding out rather quickly. She saw the back of the tall brunette, even from behind she looked phenomenal in the dress Madison’s father had custom made for her. Their dresses coordinated, and Madison would have thought it was a sweet gesture if the only purpose behind it wasn’t that he didn’t want them embarrassing him at such a big event.
“Hi baby,” Madison said cheerfully, wrapping her arms around Shane’s waist from behind. The smuggest smile was painted on her lips. Madison sloppily kissed Shane’s cheek, smearing black kiss marks on her face. She recognized the people Shane had been mingling with, though she was too fucked up to remember who they were. She turned her attention back to Shane. Squeezing her tightly she asked, “What did you think of the song?”
