So I've watched episode 13 and well, I think this is it, the last episode of the show. Even though I want more, I would be surprised if we get a season 5.
Warning : spoilers and long post under the cut
Honestly giving each character a solo song that encapsulates their personality, and then making everyone sing the first opening feels like a goodbye to the show in general. That and the final sketch thanking the viewers.
Regarding the episode in itself, it's enjoyable, even if you don't know the songs they're parodying. It's a top ten, in this order :
Hatabou sings a parody of Tsuppari high school rock'n roll (I know it because Nakamura Yuichi sang a version of it, it's on youtube)
Karamatsu probably sings a parody of Matsuken Samba II (not entirely sure, but since there's "Matsu" in the title, it must be this one). I love his voice, and the shot where he rides his motorcycle through the stage and disappears is great. Igniting his dreams
Dekapan and Dayon sing a rendition of Azusa Nigo (just discovered this song and I love it). Amazing voices, not the usual comical ones. They say goodbye to showa era, while also complaining that they can't show their nipples or swallow people anymore (joking that they're outdated characters), but they'll continue anyway
I don't know which song Ichimatsu is parodying, but it's really cool. He sings about being a fallen angel, and then surprise reappearance of the buzzcut, which he proudly wears
Chibita sings a parody of Naniwabushi dayo jinsei wa, Gag dayo jinsei wa (I think it means "Life's like a gag" ?). Again, great voice, he sings about his Osomatsu-kun self, being alone and starving, but also literally putting his life on the line for the sake of a gag
Can't find which song Choromatsu parodies, apparently they told Kamiya Hiroshi to sing annoyingly, but he still sounds very good. It's about Choromatsu having a crush/simping (possibly a Nyaa reference although she doesn't appear). He says he's lame and a pushover, with clips of his brown hair and his letter from season 1 burning playing in the background. He can't really commit, and the song ends with him slowly drowning (a metaphor for anxiety ?). The only thing he can do is admitting his love
Again, don't know what Jyushimatsu's song is, though the setting is let's say psychedelic. Of course he sings about baseball, classic Jyushimatsu. Possible subtle reference to Homura since he's singing to someone and asking them to kiss him
Can't find Todomatsu's song either, it's about being the youngest and his desire to make his way in the world, but he can't escape his brothers. He calls it a curse, and wonders why he's still with them
Iyami and Osomatsu are the last two to sing before the group songs. Most popular showa character and titular character back-to-back, love it. I don't know Iyami's song but it's awesome (so is his costume by the way ; he wears a white suit and makeup). He says he can't see love in his interlocutor's (probably the viewer's) eyes anymore, but he says goodbye to the past. If you've gotten sick of him (and the show), then do what you want. He won't chase after you (doesn't care anymore ; the show won't try to please you), but at least watch his joke (return of the going to France gag). Calls Akatsuka (and himself) "star of the Showa era", and concludes with multiple sheeh. Honestly, amazing way to say goodbye to Iyami's character and everything he represents.
Osomatsu was just a presentator and not in the top ten, but he wants to sing anyway, so the titular character gets the last solo. In a way the song kind of sums up his character arc, but also not really. He says he wants to live his life as he pleases, doesn't know about his future. He tells people not to get their hopes up, because "this machine is broken" : a reference to pachinko and gambling, paralleled with people's expectations of him. Also can't help but see a nod to the viewers wanting more for his character arc this season (ep 12 is all we're gonna get). Basically, yes he's evolved, but he's still the same inside ; you could say he's grown to accept himself, his dream going forward is to do whatever he wants, he only has one life. Furthermore, it's a continuation of Iyami's song, as he tells us not to expect too much of the show, but if we want we can stay. The sun sets behind him, it's night, there are pachinko machines (end of showa era.. the show is and will be what it is. It's a gamble, but don't expect anything cause it's useless). He concludes by apologizing for the mess
First place in the top ten is "Neet paradise", sang by all the brothers. They sing about staying neets forever, it's very cute, and yeah, that sounds like a goodbye song
As I said in the beginning of this long post, the whole cast sings one last time the first opening.
Is this the end of the show, or are they playing with us and they just made the episode that way because of the anniversary, time will tell
Nobody cares but personal song ranking from first to last : Iyami, Osomatsu, Dekapan and Dayon, Choromatsu, Chibita, Ichimatsu, Karamatsu, Jyushimatsu, Todomatsu, Hatabo
