Travelling to Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls, Canada is a city across the Niagara River from Niagara Falls, New York in the United States. The city lies in the south-central part of Ontario, Canada, and has a population of around 82,000 in the city itself and over four hundred thousand in the metropolitan area. The city is, of course, dominated by the famous Niagara Falls, both of which can be seen from the Canadian side of the river. This famous natural attraction brings in millions of tourists each year and has earned the city the nickname of honeymoon capital of the world. Tourists can reach the city via international airports in Buffalo, New York, or Toronto, Canada. There are smaller airports in the cities of Niagara Falls on both sides of the border.
Almost all of the tourist attractions in the area are centered around, or based on, the waterfalls. There are observation decks and towers adjacent to the falls for breathtaking vistas. Also, many of the hotels and restaurants in the city offer beautiful views of the falls. You can also visit Queen Victoria Park, which not only offers platforms with spectacular views, but features fantastic manicured gardens making it a destination in itself. Finally, there is a cable car which transports visitors over the whirlpool at the base of the falls.
Had enough of waterfalls? There are still plenty of other activities in and around this lovely city. Just north of the city lies a lush area filled with an impressive array of wineries. This area is dotted with quaint bed and breakfasts if you want to get away from the hustle of the city. If you love wine, you may want to consider visiting Niagara Falls during the annual Niagara Ice Wine Festival.
Visitors can enjoy casino gambling in Niagara Falls in one of the two new casinos in the city. The newest is the Fallsview Casino Resort Hotel, where one can find luxury accommodations, fine restaurants, and casino gambling, all in one place. For the golfers, there are several world class courses in and around the city.
For those enjoying more outdoor pursuits, besides Queen Victoria Park, there are several areas to enjoy the natural scenery and beauty of the area. There are the Niagara Parks Botanical Nature Gardens and the Niagara Parks Floral Showhouse for those who love gardens and flowers. For the hikers, hit the Niagara River Recreational Trail for a scenic walk along the river.
People who enjoy a good meal won’t be disappointed either. There are many fine, international restaurants in the city, as well as casual pubs, grills, and cafes. As said before, many of these offer views of the falls with your dining experience. The Keg Steakhouse and Bar is a local favorite. For those not afraid of a little height, the Skylon Tower Revolving Dining Room gives breathtaking views of the falls, as well as the night lights of Toronto.
For the shoppers, Niagara Falls is of course a souvenir buyer’s paradise, but it also has many local arts and crafts shops, antique shops, and gift shops. For the bargain hunter, there is a nearby factory outlet mall with over forty name brand stores.
Although you will most likely be drawn to Niagara Falls by the proximity of the falls and the fantastic, breathtaking views of this beautiful natural phenomenon, you will be brought back again and again by the many wonderful attractions and things to do in this lovely city. Niagara Falls is truly a visitor’s paradise and you won’t regret a short holiday or an extended vacation in this part of Canada.
