Imagine Eclipse did wake up in a forest barely alive. Like everything is cracked or broken, he’s missing the entire casing on his left arm, one leg is just gone, his other hand is broken and mangled. But he manages to crawl his way to one of Moon’s old bunkers in the forest.
Now imagine sun, during his current mental breakdown, finding this bunker and finding mostly broken Eclipse inside still trying to fix himself. He obviously can’t do anything to him worse than what he’s already going through.
And Eclipse has been so isolated for months trying to scrounge parts from this bunker but not being able to leave because his battery is too damaged to get more than five feet out before having to turn back and go back and plug himself back in and keep trying to fix himself.
He’s replaced his broken casing with old discolored green casing that used to be Moon’s blue. He managed to hotfix a ‘prosthetic’ leg made of Moon’s old nano machines he found and used. His right hand is replaced with an old Sun model hand and his various wounds have been repaired with melted metal that makes bumped scars on his casing.
He’s so isolated he immediately hugs Sun and clings on and cries and collapses because he’s not used to being touched. Sun hesitates but holds him because this Eclipse isn’t the one tormenting his family, he can tell by the way he’s been plugged into the charging port for weeks to continue being alive.
Sun stays with him a bit, comforting him and assuring him that it’s okay, he didn’t mean to scare him. Eventually he coerces Eclipse to let him take him back to the daycare and make sure he gets there safely when he learns he’s not able to get far because his battery can’t charge higher than ten percent.
Once he gets him home, Sun gets a verbal lashing from Moon, who had Lunar run to him crying from Sun’s outburst. Sun fully accepts this but continues to carefully place expelled Eclipse on his bed and plug him in to charge and shoves a random plushie into arms so he doesn’t feel like he woke up alone again and tucks him in.
Moon notices how gentle Sun is with this Eclipse and is quite sure this isn’t the right Eclipse. Sun apologizes to Lunar and he sits down and talks about how his mindset was very bad at the time and he didn’t mean to lash out and he shouldn’t have and Lunar doesn’t have to accept the apology and shouldn’t feel he has to because of the explanation, but Sun wants Lunar to know he feels terrible for taking his frustration out of his baby brother.
Lunar accepts, though hesitantly, and Sun explains to his brothers, much gentler for Lunar, that he has Eclipse in his room and explains it isn’t the current Eclipse, but the original he expelled into a forest, who is incredibly broken and in need of help with his battery life.
Lunar is cautious but allows this so long as Sun claims responsibility for Eclipse. Moon replaces Eclipse’s battery once he wakes up to make sure he wakes back up after and is successful with the battery transfer.
Eclipse is still very shaky and easily startled, he hides behind Sun a lot and holds onto the closest sibling. He’s very happy to have a family and people to love him, but he’s very skittish around new people. The children scare him at first and he gets comforted and brought back to a beanbag to calm him down.
He’s very nervous re-meeting Monty but Monty is quite gentle with him, because he gets that the daycare attendants all have trauma and Eclipse is no exception. Eclipse’s favorite thing he owns is the stuffed bunny Sun gave him to wake up with. He calls her Cosmos. Everyone calls him Astral because he doesn’t like the associations of how he used to be and it makes it easier for his brothers to distinguish him from the backup Eclipse that’s currently a problem for them.
