Seen AMA: From Idea to 80k Uniques & 72% Growth Monthly
Tarikh Korula's company, Seen.co, is closing in on a hundred thousand monthly unique viewers, a stat that grew an alarming 72% last month. Much of this is organic traffic from search engines like Google, where Seen pages appear more than thirteen million times per month.
Tarikh considers Seen to be Wikipedia for the real-time web. For media properties like Wikipedia or Rapgenius, which Seen hopes to emulate, search engine rankings and page view growth are actionable metrics of success.
People use Seen to experience events through beautiful visualization of tweets and photos. Think concerts, conferences, and major world events like the Oscars or Mandela's Memorial. Seen is already making money by selling data, metrics, and publishing tools to event organizers who in turn spread Seen to their audience.
Tarikh is one of my favorite people. He attended Lean Startup Machine and after raised an impressive angel round of funding from NYC's A-list. As you all know, Lean does not mean cheap, it means doing the right thing at the right time. I was also Seen's first customer.
