Basement Films have truly outdone themselves with this year's Experiments In Cinema v19.8, an incredible festival of experimental film and video works that will include a special programme of films by Jon Behrens (1964-2022), Belgrade's Alternative Film Video, a live media performance by 99 Hooker, works from (S8) Mostra Internacional de Cinema Periférico, and loads more. Iris Film Collective member Alex MacKenzie's YUL20A will be screening in Experiment 6, and there are a total of an incredible 21 curated collections of work to see.

If you can't make it in person from April 23-27 2024 in Albuquerque at the Guild Cinema, you can watch it free online May 4-18 2024 at experimentsincinema.org.

Experiments in Cinema is back for v18.4, aptly subtitled Return to the Meatspace, and we are excited to have Iris Film Collective member Alex MacKenzie’s film Waiting Room featured in this vast mix of great recent experimental works that includes curated films from the International Video Art Festival of Camagüey, Cuba, the Microscope Gallery, New York, and a retrospective on Amy Halpern. The in-the-flesh festival will take place April 18-22 2023 in Albuquerque NM, with the online version May 1-10 2023. Check it all out at experimentsincinema.org!

One of our favourite festivals is coming to your screen!

Experiments in Cinema is an annual, transnational and non-competitive  festival celebrating the current trends and history of international cinematic experimentation, produced by Basement Films. This year they are celebrating their 17th anniversary with a host of unique screenings (100 films from 30 countries). EIC also features special lectures, curated programs and workshops.

Iris Film Collective member Alex MacKenzie’s film Pinhole Park will be featured in “Experiments 10″. Check out the whole program online - free to watch from May 9-23, 2022!   www.experimentsincinema.org

We at Iris are BIG fans of Albuquerque’s mighty Experiments In Cinema, and many of our films have been featured here in the past.

EIC was recently featured in Millennium Film Journal #68 and Senses of Cinema magazine just voted them one of the top 10 experimental film festivals in the world.

This year is the 16th edition, and it’s available FREE May 1 - 22, 2021 at www.experimentsincinema.org. This edition features an Indigenous Peoples focus with programming curated by Raven Chacon, Marcella Ernest and Sally Kewayosh. They will also be having a panel discussion with invited curators moderated by NWFF artistic director, Rana San. Don’t miss out!
