Here’s Everything You Should Know About Remote User Research
Running an online business is no easy feat! While most people are under the impression that the key to running a successful online business is to boost sales, what escapes their purview is that reaching an ambitious target cannot be done overnight and requires thorough planning and deliberation. One of the most important ways to take your business to new heights is to understand your customers, their priorities, and their pain points.
Whether you’re launching an app, redesigning your website, or refining your products’ features, user experience is an integral aspect of maintaining a competitive edge. Owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, the trope of identifying and analyzing the preferences of your users has undergone a paradigm shift as businesses have taken up a remote approach.
What is Remote User Research?
There are many different ways to conduct remote user research. It doesn’t have to be limited to over-the-phone interviews or surveys. Although those methodologies do both play a role in remote research, we need to recognize that technology has been changing rapidly in recent years, and it has allowed us to expand our range of what is possible. This means that we have more options for how we can do user research as well as who can participate in that research.
Remote user research usually involves taking fast, reliable, and scalable steps to get the insights you need to improve your customer experience. Unlike in-person user research, this approach allows you to transcend the limitations of location, schedule, and resources and enables you to get feedback from actual people in your target demographic in their natural environment: at home, at a store, or anywhere else they'd normally engage with your product.
Furthermore, remote user research is a viable alternative to in-person usability testing because it provides insights into how would-be and current users will interact with your product or service on their own time and their terms.
How is it Helpful?
Remote user research is a great way to get unbiased, honest feedback from your target audience that doesn't involve any preconceived notions. It's also a cost-effective alternative to in-person user interviews and usability tests. There are several reasons why remote user research is beneficial to your business. The biggest is that it saves time and money by allowing you to find solutions faster while still providing valuable feedback.
As a UX designer, it can be tough to put together a full-fledged team and lead them through a user study. With remote user research, you don’t have to worry about travel expenses or an influx of emails during your workday. Time management remains an essential aspect of remote user research because you need to make sure everything is being done correctly without having any oversight from colleagues or clients.
Now that you know almost everything about remote user research, it’s time to leverage the approach to dig into your customers’ behavior so that you can uncover actionable and valuable insights. If you’re looking to get remote user research for your website, get in touch with our experts at Experiment Zone.

5 A/B Testing Mistakes That Are Wasting Your Time: Tips from Top A/B Testing Agency
A/B testing is something that every online business website owner has to go through now and then. However, many businesses and website owners sometimes get caught up in many A/B tests that might not be relevant or useful. As per top A/B testing agency experts, here are the five common mistakes you need to look out for:
INVALID HYPOTHESIS
Having an invalid hypothesis can throw off your results from testing. Hypothesis refers to a theory that assesses the results from a particular page while offering ways to improve those results. From evaluating the reason behind conversions from the landing page, speculating why specific things are happening, learning why people are clicking CTA, or signing up to your newsletter, the first step is assessing everything that’s working and not working. A valid hypothesis includes everything from observation, assessing the problem, coming up with the fix, implementing the solution, and then measuring the results after the fix.
TESTING THE WRONG PAGE
Testing the wrong page means not only a waste of time for your A/B testing agency professionals but also money and effort. Pointless testing leads to a wastage of resources. So how to decide which page to test? Choose the one that makes the highest difference in conversions, leads to more sales, or leads. Your most visited pages such as home page, contact page, blog page, or about page are ideally a good choice for testing.
SPLIT TESTING TOO MANY ITEMS
Conducting multiple split tests at once can give rise to confusion. It might sound like a great idea to run numerous tests to save time, but it works reversely. You will never be able to assess and learn which change is responsible for what. Multivariate testing is excellent when you completely redesign your website with many changes in place. However, you will end up with multiple combinations that become time intensive and daunting. It ideally works well for high-traffic sites and pages.
TESTING WITHOUT CREATING ANY VISITOR PERSONAS
Testing assesses your visitors and gives them clearly defined personas. It shows what works on your site and what doesn’t. Creating personas helps you target your visitors more precisely and effectively according to their interests. It enables you to realign your marketing and design targeted emails and customer discounts, improving conversion rates.
NOT CONSIDERING MOBILE TRAFFIC
What brings people to your site on a desktop is entirely different than mobile phone users. This is why you should run separate tests for both the user faces. But how do you tackle a situation where one set of changes for a landing page works for a desktop while a completely different one for mobile? Here’s where the technical specialty of your A/B testing agency team comes into play. Talk to your professionals if it's possible to offer a satisfactory user experience on both devices for the said changes.
Be wary of these mistakes to kick off your A/B testing to a good start.

CRO Experts Can Help You With These Key Things
As a small business owner, you know the importance of online marketing campaign. That is why you have established your contact channels and put up interesting, fresh content on your company’s website. People are engaging with your website and your SEO work is also producing positive results. However, you’re still not able to turn most of your users into actual customers.
This is where conversion rate optimization (CRO) comes in. It is a process that helps you turn website visitors into customers. For instance, if your website has 20 percent conversion rate, it means only 20 percent of the total visitors actually take a desired action such as purchasing a product or leaving contact details. With the help of CRO strategy, you can reduce friction in your funnel and improve the value of your offer. If you do not know anything about this strategy, you can hire conversion rate optimization experts online. With their help, you will be able to finally convert most of your visitors into customers. Below are some things that CRO experts can help you out with.
Use Headlines Effectively
Whenever a visitor reaches your website, the first thing he/she sees is the headline. If you haven’t been using headlines in your website, now is the time to use it. Its chief purpose is to encapsulate your whole sales pitch into one bold sentence. It should catch the visitor’s attention, answer a query, solve a problem, or be informative.
Use Correct Call-To-Actions
Always keep in mind that your landing page is meant to obtain something from your visitors. For instance, it should obtain lead generation, contact details, or sales. With the help of Call-To-Action (CTAs), you can fulfill the aforesaid objectives by directing your visitors to act in a particular manner. CRO experts will use strategic CTAs such as popus forms, button, pricing tables, etc., to achieve these objectives.
Simply Navigation
If visitors cannot navigate your website easily, you cannot expect them to turn into customers at all. It is essential to understand that focusing solely on the direct traffic that you get on your landing page is not good. You should instead make your website navigation easier so that visitors all around your website find their way back to the landing age and call-to-actions without any issue. CRO experts can help you simply navigation as well.
Apart from the above-mentioned things, CRO experts can also help you out with page load speed, verified payment systems, optimization for mobile, testimonials, and much more. Each website is different and has different requirements. For your particular website, CRO experts will plan a unique strategy. If interested, you can contact companies online that specialize in conversion rate optimization and discuss with them your specific needs.

Good Friday Science Adventure
After much anticipation, my four-days-long Easter break have finally begun! Hooray! And the most exciting part is that I've decided to spend my first day, more specifically "Good Friday" at my favourite place-to-be....*drumroll* Newcastle's one and only, CENTRE FOR LIFE a.k.a. LIFE SCIENCE CENTRE. Why? Because their new experiment zone is finally here and I just have to be there to try it out! So I boarded the bus early morning and was all pumped up for the adventure. Did I mention this is not my first visit to LIFE? In fact, this is my third visit. I usually revisit whenever they change their exhibitions/events/shows. Which means, all of the events on the What's On Today? board are new to me :) All set! Now it's time to have fun! First stop, THE NEW EXPERIMENT ZONE! "Welcome to The New Experiment Zone where YOU are the scientist!" At this point, I was already in awe. Totally impressed by how the zone actually looks! That little kid in me was already jumping for joy, super excited to spend hours and hours in there, but from the outside, I could only "display" a quarter of that excitement I have inside (well, I'm guessing it would be kinda weird to see an adult jumping for joy in the public over an experiment zone like that?) LOL. I've decided to go for the Extracting DNA experiment because the other experiments are actually things that I have been doing in the lab. When I stepped into the zone, that's where I couldn't stop smiling. Boy this area looks awesome! Like the science lab you would imagine Jimmy Neutron in or other science lab you could see in movies/series etc. How I wish I had the chance to see such an amazing setup when I was young! Labcoats on my right... (LOVE the Life logo on the labcoat!) Nitrile gloves on my left... I put on PPE (labcoat, safety glasses and gloves) and moved to my lab desk. You know what!! They even have a touch screen monitor on each lab desk! (I have always dreamed of having a touch screen gadget near my lab fume hood so that I could look at the reaction scheme while I set up my reactions! So this was actually like a DREAM COME TRUE) So I started the experiment with the help of the touch screen monitor. The instructions were clear and easy to understand (saying this from a kid's perspective) haha. Waiting for my mixture to settle. Waiting for the "white stuff" = DNA to work their way through the bottom layer (water + surfactant + wheat germ) to the top (cold ethanol). Can you see the white stringy stuff in the top layer? It's DNA, million strands of it! :) Here's me in PPE with my extracted DNA sample :) So that was the end of my experiment. After cleaning up the apparatus, I've managed to have a chat with one of the facilitators/supervisors in red lab coat (totally resembles the red lab coat PhD demonstrators use in the Chemistry Department at Newcastle University). During the chat, I found out that the experiment zone was designed in such a way that it encourages family to work together (most of the time, parents would take up the role as "facilitators"). This learning environment will initiate more discussion within each family, allowing more "science-related topics" to be brough home to their dinner table. Thereby exposing kids to science in a long term. As a science (Chemistry) enthusiast myself and as a person who would like to inspire younger generations to pursue science related subjects, I think that this new experiment zone is a smart and precise move. This sciency environment will give kids/general public the opportunity to explore Science in a "user-friendly" way and experience being a scientist for a day :) Next stop, the science theatre! Time to learn more about our brilliant brain! I enjoy every bit of the presentation, especially the part when he told the story of Phineas Gage. Our body work wonders with the help of our brain :) Then I went for the Easter Chocolate Workshop and made some delicious choco egg :) And I've learned more about this plant and its pod! Went for the 4d ride right after. Guess what? It's SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS! *Spongebob's fans would definitely love this ride! and all the hidden spongebobs in the building LOL 3d glasses :) Spongebobs! There's even spongebob face painting! XD If you're a superfan, you should come and get one on your face haha. The planetarium show: We Are Astronomers was so good to the point that I actually shed a tear. It is amazing to see how much time and energy astronomers have sacrificed to reach where we are right now. All for the name of Science. Kudos fellow researchers! And so this is how I spent my day at the Centre for Life! Though this is my THIRD visit, I still find its content very interesting. I like the sense of surprise that I'd get in every of my visits. Will definitely come back for more!! Next visit would be.... Maker Faire 2015! Looking forward to that :)
