I have a few patients who have diseases that I’ve never seen before. I usually admit straight up that I don’t know much about their condition but I ask questions and then do my own reading to learn how to take better care of them. I usually do a very thorough physical exam in the begin i g to establish a solid baseline for them too. In most cases these rare diseases are treated by specialists, but it’s still important for me to understand their disease process so I’ll know how it might affect the rest of their care.
