burned alive || reaction solo
seunghyun stands up slowly, leaving his coffee mug on the table and staring at the television set in disbelief. the world around him grinds to a slow, molasses pace, and he can't think, he can't breathe, he doesn't understand what is happening or why. it doesn't make any sense, life and death shouldn't be so close to each other, it shouldn't be that easy to step from one to the other.
how can this happen, he's just seen mr. kim a few days ago; they'd had breakfast, it'd gone well. he was nervous the entire time, but his father-- his father, his father, his father-- had just smiled and chuckled and let him know it was okay. they led different lives and while he hadn't been there for most of the beginning, they could start something now. they are both adults now, they could contact each other and meet up whenever seunghyun might like. the 24-year-old had responded by asking him to breakfast next week as well, and he agreed. he said he would be there.
he'd promised...
they are only just beginning, only just starting out a relationship, after almost 22 years of being without, of being fatherless. seunghyun had finally gotten up the courage to reach out to his dad, to establish a connection, and now....
his phone starts ringing and it's his mother but he doesn't pick up. he doesn't want her to hear the tears in his voice, the despair in his lungs. she's the only one who's ever been able to read him so well, she would know instantly that he's seen the broadcast. he already knows if he uses his voice at all, it will be shaky and broken and pathetic.
mr. and mrs. kim, dead, burned alive inside their home, along with 5 other innocent people, and it might have been foul play.
seunghyun stands in his apartment, alone, his knees wobbling, crying into his hand as he watches the television screen, the image of the father he barely knew, and never got the chance to know, flashing in front of his face. burned alive. he is dead and seunghyun is too late now, after so long, wishing and hoping and dreaming for so long. he had the possibility of a family dangling just within reach, and now it's gone forever; he'd had only one single meal with the guy, long enough to be sure that he did want to see him more.
long enough to remember that once upon a time, he had been seunghyun's hero, his daddy, his favorite man in the whole world. long enough to remind him that he loved him. all for nothing now...
nothing.
