What am I afraid of, [Name]?
Such a serious question beckons a serious answer.
While Astarion's clear preference was to converse on a more laidback level, preferring to pepper his conversations with dark or inappropriate humour and frankness, he wasn't totally incapable of being an honest confidante when the time called for it. Many people thought wrong of him for this, however that very select few who knew him well enough didn't think twice about asking such a deep, loaded query.
The vampire stared blankly at Nym-yraen, looking into his two-toned eyes like he was searching. His attention was focused on something that was moving towards him like he hoped it would eventually spill out and reveal itself. He had a knack for this, for learning how someone really felt inside, just by studying the delicate intricacies of their eyes. It became a useful tool in his life as a manipulator, but also helped him to form genuine relationships and help him to understand the needs and feelings of others. Eyes are an individual's window into their soul; their mind, trauma, past. Everything, open and exposed for him to explore to his cold heart's content.
Like a heavy weight, Astarion dropped back into reality, ready to give his answer. He couldn't be sure one hundred percent, but he had a niggling feeling that this drow's fears, the pain he held so close and refused to let go of, was to do with...intimacy.
"--Love." He answered with the tenderest of tones. "You're afraid of love."
