I wasn’t supposed to touch it.

It was locked away in a cedar box with a note: “Only to be used under moonlight, and never when the tide is low.”

The brass was still warm. The dials turned without resistance—as if something on the other end was guiding me.

It doesn't point North. Never has. Just spins slow... and points somewhere deeper.

My uncle said he got it from a shop that specializes in maritime salvage. But he won’t tell me the name.

✨ CHEERS TO THE EXPLORERS ✨

What a blessing it was to spend several late April days in in NYC with The Explorers Club, celebrating and communing with the dreamers, doers and change-makers who are working to improve our planet (*and* universe) for all of its inhabitants, great and small. 🌎

📹 I’m honored to be a Fellow in @the_explorers_club for my storytelling work, and I am delighted to uplift some of the world-changing stories that pass through the Club’s hallowed halls (including as red carpet host for this year’s gala, through which I interviewed exploration legends such as @victorlvescovo and @justin_fornal [featured in the wild 🐊 armor], as well as friends / luminary change-makers like @calliebroaddus, @babybackrebs & @ricardo.saltwater). 

🧐 What IS The Explorers Club, you ask? It’s is a multidisciplinary, professional society dedicated to the advancement of field research, scientific exploration and resource conservation. It was founded in 1904 to support “the Scientific Exploration of Land, Sea, Air & Space”, and its members include the first people to visit the North & South Poles, the first to reach the Summit of Everest, *and* the first to set foot on the Moon. 

Explorers Club an illustrious bunch, to say the least. And when it gathers, my mind cracks WIDE OPEN with inspiration, every. single. time. 💫

NEW YORK - Explorers Club Supports Chinese Indigenous Communities through FashionLast night, I covered New York Fashion Week at The Explorer’s Club with a much wider mission and vision for our planet. The Club partnered with Roots Studio , who support the Miao and Buyi communities in Guizhou, China, through their indigenous fashion.The artisans of these communities use their own techniques, which are shown by Root Studio, to help bridge cultures through digital licensing and royalty generation to support their cultural heritage.
