L A N G S T O N H U G H E S A dapper gentleman with so many stories to tell. Both a writer and thinker of the Harlem Renaissance. •Langston was born February 1, 1902 in Joplin Missouri and the dash on his grave stone was filled with writing poems, columns, plays, novels, and socially engaging in the community. •He attended Lincoln University, a renowned HBCU, and went on to attend Columbia University for a year before deciding to travel the country. •Receiving many awards from many different organizations including: the Guggenheim Fellowship, NAACP’s Spingarn Medal, the Anisfield Book Award, and many more! •He was a jewel to the community and my favorite poem from his is Dreams: Hold fast to dreams For if dreams die Life is a broken-winged bird That cannot fly. Hold fast to dreams For when dreams go Life is a barren field Frozen with snow.
