Traffic Management
Traffic management is the mastery and administration of transportation services. Such operations include choosing of mode of shipping carriers, consolidation of small shipment, paperwork, and applying the loss and damage claims. The global logistics manager’s selection of a said mode of shipping depends on the number of factors.
First, for commodities that are decaying, such as cut and whole flowers, delivery speed is of more importance. Speed may also be needed in situations involving valuable delivery dates or deadlines. In such situations, airfreight is the only reasonable and viable mode of transportation to successfully deliver the commodity to the international customer right on time. Airfreight is also more convenient than the other modes of shipping that have more tiring unloading functions, which could open the shipment to loss or damage.
Second, the choosing of transportation mode is impacted by expense considerations. Since airfreight is more costly than the other modes of shipping, the foreign logistics manager has to decide whether such huge expenses are justified.
Export companies tend to ship compact commodities or high-charged items by air due to such products are more suitable for airfreight or because the cost justifies the expense.
Third, government stresses could be implied on exporters to ship by national carriers, even when few other more cheap alternatives exist. The selection of airport or port may be other necessary decision to be made. Such choices may be impacted by the wish to consolidate shipment or the presence of neighboring highways (to the port) on which the weight limits are not strictly enforced.
