The display was sitting in plain view on the coffee table, ensuring Elizabeth would see it as soon as she walked into the room. The gala inviation was positioned at the top of a basket containing a bouquet of flowers, a box of chocolates, and a bottle of expensive wine with a small tag tied around the neck of it which read ‘Hope you’re free Friday night. -J.’ It was a formality, really, but one that Jervis knew Elizabeth well enough to know she would both appreciate and expect.
Now all there was to do was wait in the other room until she saw it.
