“I’m no expert on royalty, but I’m pretty sure this qualifies me to be some sort of princess.”
“I’m not sure that’s hoe nobility works, but it’s an impressive skill.”
Lewis Caroll, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass
“I know I stashed those decorations around somewhere.” Jervis mused, looking around the club’s storage room. “The problem is, I have no idea where.”
exquisiteblonde:
“What do you mean, protect everyone?” Liz shook her head. “Why would I need protecting from some women in my house in the first place? The fact alone that I might need protecting from them would have been a red flag surely?” The blonde said with a forced laugh. Frustrated and stressed, she stood up from the corner of the couch and did a small lap of the room. “Do I at least get an actual apology – An actual explanation as to what they were doing here, what you were doing with them?” As Elizabeth scoffed, she rested her hands on her hips. “I’ve every reason to accuse you of cheating on me and I feel like it goes without saying that if you did, I’m walking out of that door right this second.”
“Not from them, Liz.” Jervis, frowned, trying to figure out how to talk about this. What he could possibly say that would make enough sense to make things better. “Alice and Georgia are harmless. There’s just some people we sometimes have to deal with that are less so that I’d rather keep you more distant from if I can. Maybe it seemed better that you just didn’t have to know anything about what might be going on there. I’m not saying I was right.” Clearly, the approach had been flawed, to say the least. “If that were the case, I wouldn’t blame you for the second. But I promise, it’s not.” Though that stupid website had done a good job of making it seem like it was. “I wasn’t doing anything with them. I gave them a place to stay if they didn’t feel comfortable going home by themselves at the end of the night. That was it. I’m sorry I lied to you and I’m sorry I was an idiot about how I went about a lot of things, but I’d never cheat on you.”
geomarches:
“There’s more to them than that. I can tell.” He watched the interviews. They were smart men, and had to have some idea about what went on in their own movies. “Oh, I have reasons for the strange titles, that’s different.”
“If you get more than that, you will probably have bested every interviewer out there, my friend.” Hatter chuckled, standing up straighter. “And those reasons are?”
exquisiteblonde:
As Jervis spoke, Liz could feel her lips pursing in some sort of an attempt to keep any temper that may rise down. The expression was broken, of course, by the occasional sip of her drink. “I know you did it for the right reasons, Jervis. I really do. You always try to help people and I love that about you but – Did it not ever cross your mind that I should probably know about people hiding in the place I live?” Her words were sharp. “I would never dare sneak a couple of guys from work in here without even telling you. I respect you too much to do that.” Liz lifted a hand and pressed it to her chest. “What about whether I feel safe, with these random women coming in and out of my house? Or doesn’t that matter to you?”
Jervis frowned, taking a drink from the thermos of tea he had sitting nearby. Nothing Elizabeth was saying was right and he didn’t really have any excuses to offer for himself. There weren’t really any to be found, even if he really wanted to search for one. Which he didn’t. “Of course it matters to me, Elizabeth.” He sighed. “I never said that I was smart about how I went about things.” If there even would have been a smart way to do this to begin with. “I was trying to find a way that would protect everyone and I went about things like an idiot in the process.”
geomarches:
“Oh, good, then it’s going to keep bothering me until I meet Paul McCartney. Or Ringo. I bet Ringo would know.” And it was only a matter of time until he met one of them or managed to ouija John or George. “It didn’t feel arbitrary. It seemed to be an identity point. Unless he was just…trying to find something to call himself.”
“Are you sure any of them will be able to give you a satisfying answer? Because I might be surprised if you get something that isn’t just rock and roll and drugs. You may have a point, but people do also assign themselves some strange titles. Just look at all of us.”
thexalice:
“Tell her that, then. Lies will only make things worse. And if you’re sincere enough maybe she will listen. I like to believe good people have a little bit more faith put into them. And you’re very good, Jervis.”
“I certainly hope you’re right about that, Alice. I’m almost not sure whether I’m more afraid to face Elizabeth or her best friend if she manages to find me.”
exquisiteblonde:
Liz walked around the edge of the room to the kitchen to quickly pour herself a drink. When she walked back in, one hand rested on her hip. “What do you mean, that’s ‘kind of what you were working on’?” She walked over to sit on the arm of the chair, her eyes trained on him. “I want you to walk me through everything. And give me an explanation as to why you were sneaking people, most of which who are complete strangers to me, into what is supposed to be our home, without so much as even telling me.”
“Working on trying to figure out a way to explain things that isn’t just ‘it’s not what she made it look like.’” He said with a sigh. “Which it isn’t for the record, but I know that sounds like a really cliched and obviously fake explanation.” Truthfully, there were a lot of mistakes in what he had done, most of which she had just outlined herself, but those almost seemed like the less significant issues. “It seemed to make more sense at the time, in the interests of everyone’s safety. Give the girls a place to hide if they had a bad night with some of the patrons and keep you removed from it at the same time.”
geomarches:
March was happy for the answer, because it was always nice to have someone who knew what he was talking about. “Okay, so. My question is: how did Jeremy Hillary Boob, PhD, the Nowhere Man, exist outside of Nowhere? Since he’s a Nowhere Man, shouldn’t he be a Somewhere Man once he’s actually in a place?” He didn’t know how long this had been bugging him, but it had been.
“Hm.” Jervis paused, leaning against one of the tables as he thought over the question. “That’s a complicated question. One that probably involves a lot of physics and linguistics that neither of us are qualified to decipher. That, or Nowhere man might just be an arbitrary title.”
thexalice:
Alice bit her lip. She knew that much already. Jervis was in more trouble than she was, which was amazing. “Maybe be honest with her? Tell her you made a mistake but that your heart was in the right place. Or just run away. I would personally run away.”
“That second option is almost tempting.” Hatter replied with something almost like a laugh. “First is probably wiser, but figuring out how to say it in a way that doesn’t sound like a lie or obvious cover-up when it isn’t is the hard part.”
exquisiteblonde:
Liz walked in through the front door slowly, setting her bag on the rack to her side. Work is stressful at the best of times, but on top of that, they’re planning for 2019 and she’s dealing with everything else. It’s almost like there’s been a weight on her shoulders since the gossip was released. The sound of movement inside signals that Jervis is home. Elizabeth’s head lifts up immediately. It was about time really that they talked everything through. “Jervis!” She called while she took her coat off. “Jervis, we need to have a serious talk.” The blonde announced as she strutted in. “Whatever work you’re doing, if you’re doing anyway, has to wait.” | @hatterstearoom
Jervis took a deep breath as he heard Elizabeth calling his name. A part of him had been hoping she might be late coming home, give him a little bit of extra time. Although, how much time he actually needed her could not even try to predict. Over and over again he had been through multiple forms of an explanation, all of which were the truth, but he could not seem to make sound right. Everything sounded like a cliched response that he did not want to use for risk of seeming like he was be demeaning.
Maybe there was no good way to put it. Maybe he just needed to rip off the bandage. “Yes. We do.” He agreed with another deep breath, straightening up a little where he was sitting. “That’s...kind of what I was working on.”
@thexalice
“Alice.” Hatter sighed, leaning on the table in front of him and running a hand through his hair. “I’m in so much trouble. I have no idea how to deal with this.”

March was laying on his just-cleaned bar, leg dangling off one side as he stared up at the ceiling. It had been a shift, that was for sure. And now he was just. Wanting to blabber. “Hatter! Have you seen Yellow Submarine? Like the movie? I’m having thoughts.”
“I have.” Hatter nodded, adjusting the chairs around the room even though it was unlikely that any of them would stay at the correct table for long. “Quite a colorful movie. I’m curious about what sort of thoughts that’s giving you now.”

“If I may say, I love your mask. The Venetian ones most people wear are nice, but so common and simple. More elaborate ones like that impressive.”
