Last night, in a funk, I decided the best way to get out of it was to do something nice for someone else, so instead of going home I surprised my friends with my car, so they wouldn't have to walk over an hour in the cold at 3am. At 4:30am, unable to sleep because I'd drunk too much tea and caffeine always affects me, I had a revelation that I did not have to feel sorry for myself. I wrote down what I would say.

This morning I asked a girl out, and Li emailed me with "TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY OF CHINESE NEW YEAR AND THE FIRST DAY OF THE REST OF MY LIFE." Li's email cheered me immensely. I decided to be done with funks: when the girl said no, I would ask someone else out, because I am in control of my own friggin life.

Then the girl said yes.
