Considering the anti-capitalist themes of fnaf, and the cultural climate of the 80s, and Ronald Reagan, and the cold war, and potentially being bisexual during the AIDS era, plus Michael’s own experience with shady businesses, (via his father, and ffps) what do you think Michael’s politics are?
I think this is the funniest ask I've ever gotten it just caught me so off guard lmfao.
I think Mike was a person who always questioned and challenged the beliefs around him and encouraged others to question their beliefs too. His whole life he'd been the dog that was kicked so seeing other people being mistreated isn't something he has to jump through hoops to sympathize with. As weird as that sounds, some people actually do have a hard time sympathizing with a person being mistreated if it kind of aligns with their learned beliefs shaped by society and lets be honest, indoctrination from a young age. But it's not strictly social issues, I think he'd stick up for anyone. I know a lot of people think based on FNAF 4 he would be a bully at school, but I don't think so at all. I feel like if he saw someone being bullied, he would step in. Do I think he got into fights and threw punches? Oh yeah. But only because said person was either provoking him or doing something he thought was reprehensible. But being like that means he's naturally going to end up friends with people who are mistreated and of course he will care about the things they go through. I do think he was a feminist, more by character and actions than label. Affects of being a momma's boy and having a little sister he's protective of I think. I don't' think this was causal either I mean it was very significant and it's actually kind of how he met my OC I ship him with my in canon. So I think his views would left, probably some punk beliefs too. I think a lot of this is a result of his life and the person he was. And to be fair, a lot of left views just seem like human decency and compassion, which is why today's political climate just baffles me. Probably the same with him. He doesn't see supporting the people society kicks down as some great moral act or something that should even be considered political in the first place. I do think he found religious people insufferable. I think he grew up Christian but then let go of it while still pretty young, because in his mind, he's done everything right and he still suffers, so he was just like "how do we even know this guy is real anyways?" And this was exacerbated greatly by living in Utah because take the most annoying Evangelical Christian and multiply it by 1000 and you'll get a Mormon. It's such extreme level of conformity among peers and then those people acting like they have a significant moral high ground in comparison to people like him and it just pissed him offfff.
Oh and I just know he hated Reagan. He would be such a good political cartoonist lmfaoooo. But he would kind of be the type of guy to show up on a spirit day that's theme is "career" in a tuxedo and be like that one clip of Gumball where he's like, in the most stereotypical president accent possible "my fellow Americans, I think we all know where this is going so lets just skip to the end" then hits a button that blows up the city behind him in the distance. That's the one I see circulating the most often but there's another part of that bit where Gumball is like "if you vote for me I promise to make all the sidewalks conveyer belts and make pizza delivery the fourth emergency service." It's here, it's really good. Which got me thinking Mike is absolutely the type of guy to win a fake election at school because his campaign was just too good. This whole thing reminding me how one of my favorite things about Mike is how fucking funny he is.
Also the part about FFPS is funny because I've always had this scenario in my head where when Henry asked him to manage the pizzeria he as just like (very sarcastically) "Great! I've always wanted to be a corrupt businessman just like my father! I can cross that off my bucket list before I die! Thanks Henry!" I don't think he is a capitalist, in fact his hatred for Fazbear Entertainment alone could probably turn him into a communist. I like to think most of his income for living post scoop was just him embezzling funds from Fazbear Entertainment because that's just so funny to me. As for being the manager in FFPS, even though he hates that sort of thing, I can't lie, I think he had a little bit of fun. I mean come on, that was his last week alive he was dying on Saturday and you only live once man. But in all seriousness, the title of the FNAF 6 ending credits song sums it up well: "Necessary Evil."
As for the AIDS thing (I never thought I would be discussing Michael Afton and AIDS) I do think he's bisexual but in my version of canon his involvement is mostly only with my female OC. With one exception later in the 90s. But I probably should point out that even though there was a heavily antigay stigma around AIDS and gay and bisexual men, isn't wasn't (and isn't) exclusive to gay people. Heterosexual people are very much at risk too, so for the context of your question just being how that would affect him, then it's just a risk that was there. I've seen lots people from the 80s say that the fear was very much in their conscious.
