4 ways to treat dry, flaky eyes 👀
I don’t know if it’s just my eyes being stupidly over-sensitive this winter or not, but my goodness are they very dry at the moment. Cold weather and harsh winds during the winter often brings on this problem, so how do we fix it? Here’s 4 top tips to restore some order to your eye area.
1) Use eye cream
Now this is a bit of a no-brainer, but during the winter it’s imperative to apply an eye cream at least once a day. This ensures that your eyes are well-hydrated and also prevents them from becoming flaky, red or irritated. Look out for ingredients such as vitamin E (it’s fab for instant nourishment) and do your best to avoid eye creams with fragrance or alcohol in them, as this can further irritate your eye area.
2) Relax with a cold compress
Another way to soothe dry skin is by using a cold compress directly on your eyes. Remember those little gel eye packs you’d pop into the fridge all those years ago for some cooling action? That’s exactly what is needed here. Doing this reduces any existing redness and inflammation and should help to stop it from coming back. Plus it’s a fun thing to add to your self-care routine.
3) Spill the tea (or teabag)
Okay, so while gossiping is an entertaining way to unwind, what I mean here is for you to use a warm teabag on your eyes. Nope, I’m not crazy, as it turns out that the antioxidants found in tea can be beneficial for certain eye concerns such as itchiness, redness and puffiness. So, pop a chamomile or green tea bag into a mug of hot water, drain it and allow it to cool for 10 minutes before applying to your eyes.
4) If in doubt, spray it out
If your eyes are still seriously sensitive, consider using a liposomal eye spray. These are used for dry eye and dry eyelids in general, so if all else fails this should provide instant relief. They’re easily found in supermarkets and beauty stores so if you’re really stuck in a never-ending dry cycle, give these a shot.
