EYEBROWS ON FLEEEEEEEEEEK!
neither the time nor the place
Characters: Yuuka Suzuki, Sherry Blendy
Summary: I am kinda sorry I killed your goldfish. Only not really.
Anime spoiler ahead.
She did not even know what had brought this on. Why he was suddenly grasping her hand, why he was looking at her so seriously.
He was dying. She knew. He knew. She knew that he knew and he knew that she knew. Just like she had known that he had – as opposed to what he had always said – minded that she had been second-in-command, that she had been the one Lyon (then Reitei-sama) had trusted more.
They went, after all, back a very long time and there was no way they could lie to one another.
“Sherry,” he said and she knew that no matter what, she would not like to hear what he would tell her. There was just something about this situation that made it impossible that there was something nice, something that would make her happy.
“Don’t,” she said as she ripped her glove off her hand, pressing the fabric against the wound.
“It’s useless,” he replied as he pushed away her hand, not gentle, not tender. He had never gone easy on her because in his opinion, when she wanted to be part of the tea, she had to carry her own weight.
(Never mind that she had ended up carrying his, too, quite a few times.)
“Sorry for not being Chelia,” she said, bitter, because she should be able to do more for her brother-in-arms than to watch him die.
“Don’t go and apologise,” he said as he pushed himself up, flinching as he heard a dragon spawn roar in the distance. “Listen here, you have to run. You have to leave me here.”
“I-I can’t!” she snapped at him because there has to be a way out, there is no way that Lamia’s infamous anti-magic mage would go out just like this.
And so quick.
It had been less than forty seconds since he had gone down and he was already making arrangements that would make sure she would continue to live on, afterwards.
“Sherry – I am to blame for Carl’s death,” he said and then, he wave boost’d her through three walls. And then----
---- she is back in the alleyway where she had been just before the attack had struck and she swept him off his feet and made him narrowly dodge the blow that should have pierced his chest and then, his shield was up and they brought down the spawn.
“What was what about my goldfish?” she asked because he had talked about the sad fate of Carl who had not survived being in Yuuka’s care while she had been off handling the Nirvana business with Lyon and Jura.
“Nothing,” he said.
Some secrets, he would take nearly to the grave with him.
