MASS EFFECT 1: LEGENDARY EDITION (2021) ↳ eletania (hercules system, attican beta)
So doing the ‘UNC: Dead Scientists’, aka ‘Corporal Toombs’ side-quest in my latest Mass Effect playthrough ended in rather a rather unintentionally tragically hilarious fashion.
As in, by the time I got to doing this assignment I had already done several Cerberus-related assignments. And not just the main Cerberus arc of assignments involving Admiral Kohoku, but also a few of the unrelated quests that spin off from Noveria and Feros that end up being Cerberus shenanigans.
And because of this, I decided to role-play Shepard being at this point thoroughly fucking DONE with this Cerberus shit. So that the moment Toombs that the doctor he wants to kill is Cerberus, Shepard basically goes ‘Oh, he’s Cerberus? Dude I’ve been killing these fucks for the last five planets. Go right the fuck ahead and shoot him. Fuck those guys.’
…Which also happened to have me forgetting what Toombs does after you let him shoot the doctor:
“Okay cool, you got your revenge. Let’s get you out of here-” ‘BANG’ “…And you just shot yourself.”
“Fuck.”
Incidentally, does anyone else think Shepard really should have had special dialogue in this mission if they were already familiar with Cerberus? Heck, Toombs HAS different lines if you’ve already completed the primary Cerberus quest-line (he mentions Cerberus’s ‘main base’ getting destroy by someone, ie; Shepard and co.), so it’s honestly kinda weird that Shepard doesn’t have similarly altered lines.
