I had a moment of wires crossing about both the "Ruby might lose an eye" and speculation I saw you make that Ruby might have a strong ability to regenerate through her Semblance leading to imagining a scene like this: Ruby takes a heavy blow that takes out an eye (to the point of the eyeball leaving its socket), but Ruby uses Petal burst before the extent of the damage fully registers, so she reforms with both eyes still. This would then be an utter surprise to everyone, Ruby included. (basically, this would be the moment Ruby finds out about this property of her Semblance.) I'm undecided if it would work better narratively/visually for Ruby's 'lost' eye to dissolve into petals that rejoin the main mass to facilitate the regen or if it is better to have it stay put, with Ruby becoming three-eyed(only two functional at a time) by a technicality.
Though for a more down-to-earth comment on one-eyed Ruby: what kind of eyepatch would she use if needed, do you think?
I'm outright wondering if she would she even bother? (Ruby refusing to cover a scar more than medically necessary would contrast with how Cinder at least partially covers all of hers, but this these are thought practically forming as I write this, so how well that works has yet to be considered.)
Tangent: if Ruby were to use a prosthetic eye, perhaps it could be made out of some of Penny's spare parts, regardless of if Penny revives again.
Okay, so in hindsight I feel like I should have addressed this point lol Because yeah, at first glance Eyepatch!Ruby DOES feel rather incongruous with the ‘Ruby’s semblance gives her total-molecular-reconstruction healing’ XD
The thing is though, I think these two theories can in fact work together. In fact, I feel like Ruby’s semblance-healing just makes the prospect of her permanently losing an eye all the more INTERESTING. In that it would be this wound that Ruby cannot or maybe will not heal.
Like back during Volume 9 when I was going real hard on the ‘Ruby pulls an Odin-at-the-Well-of-Mimir and cuts out one of her eyes’ theory, I actually thought of a way that could work with her semblance-healing; in that whatever ritual Ruby performs to sacrifice one of her eyes ultimately prevents her from regenerating a new one. She can’t reconstruct a new eye for herself because the very essence of that eye is well and truly GONE. Which would in turn play into a very dark and somber narrative point about Ruby: the only wound she cannot undo is the one she inflicted upon herself.
And speaking more broadly, I think this is actually how you can make Eyepatch!Ruby work with Ruby’s molecular-reconstruction. That Ruby doesn’t WANT to reconstruct her eye.
Even if Ruby losing her eye isn’t the result of some deeply self-destructive, self-inflicted wound on her part, what if it’s still the result of something that Ruby ends up deeply regretting? Some moment of weakness or some other great mistake on her part. And because of that, Ruby doesn’t want to simply ‘undo’ the consequences of this mistake. She ultimately decides she wants to live with the consequences of her actions.

And it’s very funny and appropriate you brought up Ruby getting a prosthetic eye from Penny’s spare parts, because I did a post a few years back that goes into all this and more XD
