Hello Nasties. I wanted to write this to you because we as admins have run into some problems getting this meet off the ground and we need your opinion on how we all should proceed as a group. If we had simply run into an issue that was a dealbreaker on this whole tour, we would have let you know right away, but instead it’s several large issues coming together that have us stumped.
Issue 1: Fundraising. Originally we had some great ideas to make some US Nasty swag. It would be things that we could purchase that would not only help us get here, but that would create some sense of solidarity because we had asked you guys to make some of the designs. Because of the way the logo design and S&M’s shirt making goes, we are not able to use their logos and affiliated things to make a profit. That means no using the words EYK and we cannot use the words Nasties, because they’re S&M’s brain children. This way was how we were going to fund general travel from location to location, and now we don’t have that.
Issue 2: Tour Specifications. Soozee let us know the things S&M need to do the tour. Some were obvious, like a room backstage that they can’t be harassed in and their own bathroom at the venue. Transportation from the airport to hotel and from hotel to venue. What we totally forgot about was that Simon is 6’4” and Martina has her Hyperextendi-ness that makes Airplane rides no bueno. Because of this, they require that on long flights they not be placed in economy section. This can mean they get economy plus, this can mean business class. The issue is, the flight to and from Korea is one of those flights, and that increases the cost of travel tremendously. What was looking like a daunting but attainable figure for funding this tour grassroots style is looking impossible. In order to do this, we require local sponsors that can help us out with funding, in addition to ticket prices. Otherwise, it’s gonna be like $300+ dollars a person for this tour. I don’t have that kinda money, and I don’t think that many other people here do either.
Issue 3: Time. Here’s the major one. We’re not sure if this is negotiable yet, but we had asked Soozee how many stops we could have on the tour. She said that in order for S&M not to fizzle out by the end of the tour, a 4 stop tour was best. This floored us. It’s hard for us in the US because we’re such a big country. The eastern section of the country is almost the size of all of Europe combined. We knew it was going to be hard for you to get to stops before when we thought we could do 8. Now we’re looking at the most spread and the most amount of people, which is currently Atlanta, NYC, Chicago and LA. That spread sucks and we know it but it’s the best we’ve got, and we don’t know what to say to all the red and yellow nasties, not to mention the vast number of green nasties that just can’t get to Chicago or the people who live closer to the interior of the US.
So we’re stuck. The price for airline tickets to get to the US is crazy, so the more stops we have the more we can spread out the cost, but if we squeeze two more stops out of S&M, we still won’t have enough to cover everyone. The other option would be to make three pairs of groups and to do 3 separate tours with 4 stops each. Our idea would be that there would be a West tour, where S&M start in Seattle and end up in LA hitting up Red and orange stops. A Northern tour, where S&M start in Chicago and end up in NYC, covering Green and Purple. And a southern tour obviously covering blue and yellow. The upside is that there are more locations for each one, and if you’re a particularly well traveled nasty you can see them several times. The bad things are that 2 sections, not all of us will have to cover their own airfare which will probably be close or even more than $10,000, making it impossible to do without major sponsors. It also throws off our timing. Only one group can get the summer, the other two would have to wait (our thought was to have a January 2015 and a “Spring break” 2015 tours for the two other pairings so we at least have the college kids who are free to trek out). This may benefit some groups as they can inquire locally about Korean festivals that may want to sponsor this, but to all the nasties that were excited because they were free in the timeframe we were giving them, this can be make or break.
So the thing I guess we’re asking is, what would you do? Should we ask Soozee for 2 more stops and keep the tour together, knowing that some people will have to get plane tickets, travel for 3/4 of a day and get hotel rooms just to see S&M (and some may not be even that lucky), or should we break this tour up, and if so which groups go when?
Regardless of what we do, I just want to let everyone know that I’m super happy we all got together. I’ve talked to the best personalities that would not be accessible had we not tried to do this crazy endeavor, and no matter what, I’m always gonna be your nasty from VA. I hope that you remain my nasty from your own state of being.
