The oldest university of the world, Al Qarawiyine university in Fès.
The University of al-Qarawiyyin, located in Fez, Morocco, holds the remarkable distinction of being the oldest existing and continually operating degree-granting university in the world. It was founded in 859 CE by a Muslim woman named Fatima al-Fihri. Fatima al-Fihri was the daughter of a wealthy merchant who had migrated from Kairouan (in present-day Tunisia) to Fez. After the death of her father, Fatima inherited a considerable fortune. Rather than using her wealth for personal luxury, she chose to invest it in the service of her community and her faith. She commissioned the construction of a grand mosque which, over time, developed into a center of learning—eventually becoming the University of al-Qarawiyyin.
The Guinness World Records and UNESCO both recognize al-Qarawiyyin as the oldest continuously operating degree-granting university in the world, predating European institutions such as the University of Bologna (founded in 1088) and Oxford (founded in the 12th century).

Day 1 of the Moroccan trip: Ceuta - Fès / 500km - Here’s few shots of our first day in Morroco. After arriving last Tuesday in Ceuta, Spanish territory on the African continent, went through the border to Morroco. A little 6 hours drive south, ending the day at night on a kind of a road directly going to the lively city of Fès. Next step, Fès - Merzouga ! - 📷: @amaurylaparra - #asphaltheritage #wintertrip #morroco #porsche911 #classicporsche #mazdamx5 #mx5na #miata #miatalife #golfgti #golf2gti #chefchaouen #fès #maroc #maroctravel (à Chef Chaouen, Morocco) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cmvox2SouUe/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
