28 victory ace and Pour le Mérite (Blue Max) holder Oberleutnant Robert Ritter von Greim in front of his Fokker Dr.I triplane, 1918. He was the last person to be promoted to Generalfeldmarschall in WW2, when Hitler appointed him the new head of the Luftwaffe on 24 April 1945, in the Führerbunker. Injured by flak on the flight into Berlin, he was flown out by the great Flugkapitän Hanna Reitsch in the last plane to leave Berlin on 28 April 1945. He committed suicide in prison on 24 May 1945.
