After trying to upload close to a hundred time this one made it . This is my sono-essay just answering the question, how did I get here? I took a very literal approach to my answer. This is just my morning ritual and my journey to school. I wake up and 3 alarms go off one at 5am, the next at 5:15am , and the last at 5:30am. Or so I thought my kitten Chloe takes it into her own hands and taps me until I literal get out of the bed . Then I take a shower in which I put on my own gospel concert even though my voice is at it’s worst when I first wake up. After you get to come along with me on the annoying car rides in the morning with my father Warren. Put in all seriousness to answer the question of how I got here is , God who choose to wake me up every morning, Enjoy!

My project is my little ramble rant about ‘How I got here’. I start from the beginning where my parents met and transition to more factors that make up WHO I am as a person. If my parents never met at work when my mom was interning and my dad was working at a small business company, I would not be here in the flesh. Little factors of both parents make up who I am today. I have some similar character traits to my dad’s mother; my grandmother and I am very thankful for that. The song in the background ties in perfectly with who I am, I am my parent’s brown eyed girl. I am here because of them.

Project Description: For this project, I focused on how I made my hobby into my career.  I've been obsessed with stories as long as I can remember, from when I was three years old dragging picture books around the house, reading a book a day in middle school, and writing a book blog in high school. Once I found out that publishing was a career, I knew that’s what I wanted to do. Stories are a huge part of my life and this podcast is just a few snippets of how I got to where I am today. *As a side note, I encourage you to read this description after listening to the audio.*

The prompt of the assignment was simply to answer the question, “How did I get here?” In the beginning of the audio, I attempt to answer this question immediately and literally by suggesting that the “here” is a life filled with materialistic struggles. The first half of the sono-essay tumbles obsessively through the ultimate way to obtain the best deals. As the podcast progresses, however, the response to the question becomes much more blurred. The listener discovers material possessions are not the most important thing after all. Instead, the listener learns that I pride the relationship I have with my mom. The prompt response then becomes far more interpretive. The “here” is no longer focused on the idea of being a shopaholic. The “here” is an abstract place in the my life in which I am able to appreciate and value the strong relationship I have with my mom. Black Friday and shopping are merely tools used to strengthen this relationship.

My sonoessay is basically about how I got to Rutgers and how I fell in love with my last choice school. At first, I didn’t want to come here and I had very negative outlook of Rutgers. Because of this, I didn’t enjoy my first semester here. I realized I had to change my perspective and not judge Rutgers by its name. During the start of my second semester, I got out of my comfort zone and did new things. I joined clubs, tried to be a social butterfly and make friends. As I got more engaged to be part of the Rutgers community, I quickly grew attached to my “last choice school” and realized I did not want to transfer or leave. I made so many unforgettable memories and some of my closest friends at here. Rutgers became my second home.

This is my Sono-Essay answer question to “How Did I Get Here?”

It involves the assimilation that immigrants must inevitably face entering this country. The U.S. is founded on this idea of diversity and opportunity, and while that remains true, immigrants must still undergo obstacles that the average native born American citizen wouldn’t. I try to intertwine the best of both worlds in regards to the immigrants journey, and their adaptation to whichever new world he or she decided to embark on.

I feel as though the narrative I have tried to portray through this Sono-Essay is an attempt to relate to any person out there who has been confronted with the situation where they had to place themselves into a new environment. Whether it’d be out of their comfort zone or not, familiarity is always an element that people seek out in moments like this.

The following audio features my long term media project no.1, a sono-essay describing the challenges and complications of reinvention as a coming of age discourse. I have heavily found that the concept of “How I Got Here”--aka to be the person, the figure, the image, the sentient being that I am greatly relied not only from the environments I have grown up in but the personalities I have forged on the way. I discuss my varying personalities--or “plates” as borrowed from Virginia Woolf’s Orlando--through references in pop culture as well as genres of music as an homage to the concept of constant change as a human as well as in relevant trends. After revisiting the person I have become through my various environments (as seen through the lens of a diary entry that I had written at the end of the summer), I came to the conclusion that I have not remained the same even within the last few days--rather than the last few years. Reinvention as a whole is impossible in one right. Rather, reinvention is a malleable process that never truly completes (until I am in my grave, I suppose). By the end of the sono-essay, I was able to come to terms with this concept, realizing that I am composed of numerous plates/personalities that never truly leave or dissipate.
