heroes got hurt. that was just part of the job, an occupational hazard they all agreed to by choosing that path. most of shouta’s captures were easy. with all his years of experience and fine tuned expertise, there were few nights he ended up bad off enough to hit a hospital. more times often than not the worst he got was a headache and irritated eyes, maybe a scrape. when patrol or cases were difficult, excluding extreme rare circumstances, he tried not to show up to class with any visible injury. the kids already knew their choice of career was dangerous but they tended to get distracted if he came in looking abnormally worse for wear. as it stands shouta hasn’t willingly missed a day of school. medical facilities have marked him a flight risk.
pros, especially underground ones regardless of what some said otherwise, risk their lives for a living. the good ones at least. he’s good or he would’ve found a new job when doctors warned him about being reckless before he’d even gotten a permanent license. shouta aizawa is great at his jobs and great trudging through when any sane person would quit. only in that way would he ever compare himself to all might - before all might became a teacher without seeming to know a thing about it.
maybe this is a day where he should go home early. though shift ended hours before ua started he hadn’t been able to sleep. individual problems he could handle; exhaustion, pain from overall shit health, pain from a hard catch, behind on grading, behind on paperwork, stress about students, those calls he responded to in the dead of dark that seemed to peel back skin and replace blood with static. even several at a time he could do. all at once pulls at whatever tightly coiled metal keeps him together.
the last thing he wanted was his carefully constructed mask decaying in front of anyone - especially snipe. all might is less infuriating in some ways. shouta had been crossing the staff room away from anything to grab when right leg had given out. hip, knee, it didn't matter, a joint had suddenly refused to hold his weight. his instinct to tip into the fall and roll back to standing is thwarted by said move generally requiring two functioning legs. at least he'd caught himself before momentum had carried him facefirst into the floor.
"do you even work the streets anymore?" that's his excuse for the fumble. a work injury. eraserhead got away clean or his record wouldn't be what it was. but even the best never got some blood on them, theirs or someone else's. shouta glares at the other without tilting head to look up fully from papers. he'd limp hop dragged back to his desk with no intention of moving until the bell rang. for all he blinks and uses up drops his eyes burn. body aches like the flu even seated. he's probably running a fever now that he thinks about it. "if you have something to say, say it or go away."
