Robin was never the type to wear lipstick that much. Sure, she wore some at times, but it wasn’t long before it was wiped off and the only thing left was the faint tint that stained her lips. Whenever she put lipstick on, no matter what color, it always looked weird and slightly off.
Her mom still kept gifting her tubes of lipstick and lipgloss in hopes that she’d use them one day. It wasn’t happening any time soon. Robin was a chapstick gal, at most.
So Robin had been accumulating quite a collection of lipstick for some time now. It seemed like a waste that they didn’t have any use. But she didn’t exactly know what to do with them. Throwing them out didn’t seem like the best option, they were brand new! However, without any practical solution she just pushed the situation to the background of her mind.
When she became friends with Nancy Wheeler, Robin had forgotten about her pile of unused lipsticks in her room. That is until Nancy found them.
“Why don’t I ever see you wearing these? They’re cute!” Nancy opened a little box on her desk. “And they’re so many.”
“Oh yeah. I didn’t get those for myself. My mom gave them to me.” She shrugged. “I just don’t care for it.”
Nancy kept going through them. Robin could tell by her expression that some of them caught her attention. Finally, Robin knew what to do with them. Or rather, who she would give them to.
“If you really like them, you should keep them.” Robin told her.
“Really?” Nancy asked.
“Yeah, at least that way someone’s going to actually wear them.” They smiled at each other. Robin loved her smile. She liked it so much more when she was the one that caused it.
Nancy kept some. Nancy wore the lipsticks that Robin gave her. Robin couldn’t stop staring. It was a problem.
Nancy noticed the staring. Robin was sure she did. But the thing that was incredibly confusing was that whenever she caught Robin staring she just smiled at her. She didn’t look weirded out at all.
And okay, Robin might’ve never liked how these lipsticks looked on herself. But Nancy was another story. Robin didn’t even have words to describe how good she thought Nancy looked. Let alone how that made her feel.
“Robin.” She was so lost in staring again, that she wasn’t even paying that much attention to what Nancy had been saying.
“Hmm?” She looked her in the eyes. Nancy’s eyes were equally captivating though. “Sorry, what’d you say?” Jesus, Robin that was embarrassing.
Nancy’s eyes sparkled. “I said that if you’re gonna keep looking at my lips like that you should at least kiss me already.”
Robin’s eyes were so wide. She was speechless. When Nancy asked if she could kiss her she couldn’t even get a word out, just managed the enough amount of brain power to nod.
It was tentative and chaste. But Robin really couldn’t have asked for a better first kiss with a girl. Nancy’s hands were cupping her face with a delicacy that had her melting. Her own hands on Nancy’s shoulders.
Giggles filled the room when they parted.
Nancy looked up at her. “Looks like you’ll still be wearing those lipsticks after all”
