today’s chapter of foreign affairs was scrumptious but i do wanna talk about the whole deal w/zaira and her brother because i feel like the resolution mc helped them come to was... idk, unrealistic? as someone who has an asshole of a brother, along with lots of other male family members who tend to act like that, i speak from experience that it is not that easy to change their behavior. you can’t just say “i don’t like the way you treat me” and expect that to solve the problem because people like zaira’s brother don’t really give a shit about other people’s feelings and won’t make an effort to change their behavior for someone else’s sake. and i’m sure i’m reading too far into this and that’s probably just because i constantly have to deal with people (*cough* men *cough*) who act like this and it just annoyed me a little bit that zaira and her brother just ~talked it out~ and ~resolved their issues~ as if that’s all it takes to get someone to stop treating you like garbage. and because this is a game, and she’s a side character, i understand that any issues between her and her brother probably won’t come up again because zaira is not the focus of the book, but if this were real life the problem would be far from solved. again, i’m speaking from experience here, and realistically zaira would likely have to put up with her brother’s shitty behavior for the rest of her life because people like that don’t change, no matter how many times you tell them their actions hurt you.
