wait wait wait are you faalthien as in THE faalthien who illustrated for How to Make a Heavenly Demon as in THE STAINED WINDOW COOKIE ARTSTYLE ARTIST FAALTHIEN AS IN the FAALTHIEN WITH THE CUMPLANE FANART OML I LOVE YOU
.
.
.
there's an animatic growing in my head relating to the fic and it's in your style so... there's that :)
Ohh hi!! Indeed I'm that!! This blog is a mess of fandoms, but svsss/Cumplane is here somewhere.
I'm always so surprised when someone recognizes me, your ask really made my day!! I keep randomly smiling about it:D
I'm so glad you like them, that was such a big project with such an amazing fic, it really was an adventure! I'm still so entertained by memories of my perpetually late ass drawing the little gays yelling profanities in random places, including at bars and parties and public transportation.
Please tell me about your animatic if you'd like, I'd adore to hear about / see it 👀👀
(gods I need to go through my art and post the things I forgot about, like the entire series of the stained window cookies. (I'm so in love with that description, best thing ever.))
Question about your Dick and Jason piece. It's objectively GORGEOUS, I LOVE it, but I'm curious about the symbolism? Dick bracing himself up on Jason like that--is he lifting himself toward the light at Jason's expense? Or maybe it's about Jason being overshadowed--literally--by Dick? Anyway, thank you so much, it's BEAUTIFUL!
Ahhh, thank you!! (And thank you for asking!!)
Now that you say it I see those interpretations (ouch), but I had something different in mind originally. For me, it was about support and trust: Jason bring solid enough for Dick to lean on, the closeness of such a position. Dick, the acrobat, going high, reaching upwards, but still connected and relying on Jason, all the while cradling the helmet, like something precious. In my head it wasn't at the expense of one of them, but a joint effort — or not even necessarily an effort, just a snapshot of them — Jason being solid, supportive, Dick always climbing higher, bringing down the light (even if this is not all who they are).
If that makes sense?? But I love to hear/read different interpretations (death of the author, etc), or always makes me see art in a new way.
(Also. I just like drawing people curled up/perched and they fit into a triangle like this 😂)
Art ask meme, 3 and 29?
P. s. : You're the best.
3. What ideas come from when you were little
Hm, not sure it's an idea, more like a theme? And I'd like to say wings, because I've been fascinated by fairies and dragons and angels from kindergarten.
But also artistically, in reality? Body horror and blood. I have terrible, terrible quality drawings from floaty-skirt-wearing, fairy-loving, miss-butterfly lower elementary me where people are gushing blood all over the page. I don't do graphic body horror, but it frequently still pops up one way or another.
29. Media you love, but doesn't inspire you artistically
Hmm, that's tricky. Maybe AtLA? I don't know why, it's perfectly good inspiration, I adore it, but I never felt compelled to draw for it.
P.s.: love you!!
Hello!
Gorgeous work with lucifer and HELEL BEN SHAHAR piece, love the atmosphere so much! If thats okay to remark, the text should be "הילל בן שחר" instead of "הליל בן שחר"
(The one you wrote actually means something like "the night son of the dawn" which is kinda awesome(!) But yeah, different :) )
Hi!!
Aaaaa I can't believe that after spending so long trying to make sure, the thing that trips me up is what my abysmal Hebrew knowledge should be enough to catch. I will add a note and an updated version when I'm near my files!
Thank you for letting me know!! \o/ (Not just okay but super appreciated!)
(Night son of the dawn is something! I don't know what but I'm here for figuring it out, sounds fun.)
*hands you some muffins as thanks*
Poetry Anon back again with more gushing thoughts. "Your light, shining" has busted me open. Their posture, the use of curving shapes like wings, the upturned face--it's got this 'Isaac and the angel at the altar' vibe that has absolutely ruined me.
Poetry Anon, hi!! I'm so glad you like it!! I'm back on angels these days (I do that from time to time), and it just bled across to Jaydick. That piece was pure feeling, "no thoughts just pretty wings". (Which is rare for me, I usually work by trying to logic up some symbolism.)
I did not think of Isaac but now I can't not think about it. I love your mind.
Hello, I'm the anon that sent the ask about the 'Angel of ruin.' I hope you know it was about your latest art piece! I just can't stop thinking about the use of light, and the downcast eyes, and the wreath of dead flowers on his head. (Are they roses? Is it a crown of thorns, with all the biblical implications thereof?) I am OBSESSED.
Poetry anon hi!!
Words kinda failed me with that ask, so now I want you to know what happened: I read it, I freaked (positively) that you had feelings and thoughts about my art (I knew it was about the resurrection one). At the same time my brain went "omgods that'd look beautiful painted" then I had to talk myself down about how I already did paint it. Anyway I ended up wordlessly yelling ("!!!!").
ALSO you know what they weren't roses but now I kinda want them to be because I cannot believe I missed the opportunity to make a religious reference??
(I have a half-done painting of Jason that started life as a crucifixion sketch (although at this point you probably couldn't tell). I also have some photos I took of paintings of Jesus not long ago which played so well with the halo and crown of throns thing, I'm obsessed. Hmmmm the mind races.)
Anyway, now I balanced the last, short answer by rambling. I'm so happy you are still thinking about it, that's the highest compliment for an artist. You made me all giddy.
The light still finds him, even as he's surrounded by death and decay. Angel of ruin.
!!!!
