Chernobyl filming locations in Vilnius
Moar photos of extras and guided tours to locations.
Although I’m not sure in which scene this location was used, @alyeen1..?
Or this one...?
The famous park from eps 2 and 5.
And I hadn’t realized the round shrubbery where Sitnikov’s daughter was playing was actually real. *___*
The divers speech scene.
The hotel restaurant.
“Few changes were made in these places: the floors were changed, the chairs were arranged, the light was dimmed to match the overall color of the film.”
And look, the guide is showing them that elusive Valery publicity shot of which we only have the cropped version. GIVE IT.
The court scene.
“In the old days, the court was still filmed, but now the renovation was filmed, and the main detail from which it can be recognized is a huge carpet hanging on the wall. In order not to have to replace the plastic windows, they were covered with dark curtains, the wall lamps were removed, and the furniture was arranged a little differently.”
The dog scene.
Also, a cute detail from the filming: Renck wanted that scene to be reeeally dark because Pripyat is supposed to be abandoned by the time of the dog walk, so he asked the residents to not turn on the lights.
“There is a yard that is not special at all at first glance. Here is a scene filmed when Szczerbina and Legasov leave the hotel to talk outside. It was for this filming that a very dark place was needed, because Pripet had already been evacuated at that time, there were no inhabitants, the house was abandoned. ‘At that time, however, life was boiling at full speed in Justiniškės and the filming team had to sweat a lot with the residents, saying that until the cameras were turned on in the yard, they would stay at home in complete darkness. Because even turning on a small light bulb somewhere in the kitchen could easily damage the scene. And when people actually complied with that request and needed to start filming, the director even saw the picture when he saw the image. The picture was really scary,’ guide A. Kazlauskas shared the real stories.”
And we have a map here, maybe useful.
In this article we find out that Renck hates red, that’s why he didn’t want any brick houses in his shot and chose Fabijoniškės. Even the trees were significant. Since Pripyat was a 16-year-old city, the trees shown in the shot shouldn’t be older than that.
@alyeen1 I wasn’t sure about the buliding on whose rooftop Valery and Boris are seen but the address is S. Stanevičiaus Street 47.
"Initially, the residents of the house opposed the idea of the creators and even resented that a lot of cinema equipment would be brought to their roof, the roof covering would be damaged and their quiet life would be disturbed by crowds around strangers, but a solution was still found. Residents of the house were asked for permission to film that after all, the developers would take care of the renovation of the roof. So, in the end, they also benefited from it, ”the guide smiles and assures that this is not the only example of how the filming of Chernobyl really contributed a lot to the improvement of the infrastructure of the old districts of Vilnius.
Filming of Chernobyl in Vilnius also took place in the Oz Cinema Hall (what did they film there?), the Museum of Genocide Victims, and the guest house on Blindžių Street in Žvėrynas, where Mikhail Gorbachev once visited.”
