PathAndPractice Survey
✨Here is a fun little survey for anyone who wants to participate. You do not have to be tagged or receive any asks to join. You do not have to be a @pathandpractice tag member to participate. It is not an ask game; just a good, old fashion myspace-style survey. Just copy this post questions, post your answers, and (if you feel like it) tag a few blogs. Please keep this description and credit to @pathandpractice when reposting. ✨
Thank you @lost-at-thecrossroads for the tag! I'm honored that you thought of me 🥹
If your magick had a theme song, what would it be?
Heavy Is the Crown, by Mike Shinoda & Emily Armstrong (Arcane score).
What's the weirdest substitute component you've ever used?
Is there really such a thing as a "weird" substitute? I don't think so, so I'll just go for something that might not get used nearly enough.
Acorns caps work great as little spell bottle caps! Especially for health or prosperity spells.
What's a superstition you don't believe?
Basically anything that claims to bring bad luck. There's a few that may make me aware for a second due to having heard about them so much in the past, but things like walking under a ladder, standing under an open umbrella indoors, etc. do not really faze me.
What's the most chaotic spell outcome? How off target did it go?
I wouldn't really say I've had anything spiral out of control. I am very selective about which workings I choose to actively pursue, so I feel like when I do pursue one everything goes exactly as planned (unless there's an insane development around an old hex of mine because I wasn't around the target after it to observe the effects).
I will say I did curse a whole company after they did me extremely wrong, and their public reputation was under a microscope and suffered for a good 3 years after that; I would say it got pretty chaotic, but it was definitely not off target.
What's something completely mundane that feels magickal to you?
Swimming in a natural body of water while it's raining.
What kind of magick are you bad at?
Sleep spells. They are not my most potent and they may even work for a little while, but they seem to require constant refreshes which is not how I like my spells to work.
What's a sign or omen you completely misread at first?
I had an astrophyllite crystal point pendant for the longest time (I believe it was the first one I ever bought after starting my practice) and I liked to wear it at my new job.
One day early on in that job after chatting with a coworker I liked, I left the office and the necklace immediately detached from my neck and the crystal broke. Just like that. Despite how silly it sounds, I felt like I could never fully trust her despite remaining friendly with her; I was always on the lookout for anything amiss.
I kept expecting her to do something nefarious (which never happened) or for her to turn out to be a terrible person somehow. But she never did anything to harm me that I know of; the only "off " thing I found out about her was a ... deeply unhygienic habit (just. trust me on this.) she exhibited at a new workplace; despite that, she was a good person with no ill intent as far as I'm concerned.
Anyways. My crystal breaking might have been just due to the glue keeping the cord attached to the latch finally giving out after many years of good use; it could have also been energetically connected to something else entirely.
If your altar could judge you, what would it say you're neglecting?
Too many notebooks. Too many.
What is one witchcraft hill you will die on?
A spell is a prayer. I am willing to elaborate in a separate post lol
What's a habit you've turned into ritual?
I decided to read The Iliad for the first time ever (Richmond Lattimore's 1951 translation) and it made sense to do it pretty regularly so I can retain the information. So now I read it out loud to Hermes on Wednesdays as an offering. I figured he would appreciate it immensely as a god of orators.
If you could take the shape of an animal for a day, what would you choose?
I think it would be so much fun to be coral LOL. It's gotta feel so weird to have so many interesting creatures live in and around you. I would just chill and narrate my own documentary for the day.
If your magic had a moral alignment, what would it be?
Chaotic Neutral/Good.
What's a belief you had early in your practice that you laugh at now?
That I would likely never feel called to work with any deities, especially not male ones (that was the Catholicism trauma speaking). Eight years later, working with deities makes me feel safer and less alone.
If you could bottle one type of feeling and use it for spellwork, what would it be?
My (autistic) sense of justice. That would be a powerful spell component for sure.
What's your "shouldn't work but does" method?
I rarely "recharge" my bigger spells, and they work just fine. I find that I can get away with the same spell being in place for at least a year before I feel like I should re-do it. The most I'll do to "recharge" is light a candle, shake a jar, throw in some coffee beans or sun/moon charge; it's gotta be quick and easy and/or extremely passive.
What's the most aesthetic over practical thing you've done in your practice?
I have had this fake skull I got at an antique store for the longest time; it was one of the first items I bought for my altar. It truly has no purpose besides being pretty and holding a few little stones in its crevices. At some point one of the horns broke off and I use the hole to hold my feather collection, and the remaining horn serves as an amulet holder (I do still have the broken off horn btw lol it holds small tools.). It's not very practical and takes up too much space, but one thing about me is I will use the things I love until they degrade beyond adaptation.
If your practice had a warning label, what would it be?
***WARNING*** Timing may not be accurate, but the spell will be.
What's the first magickal book you read?
The Green Witch, by Arin Murphy-Hiscock.
