Fabric Rose Tutorial
Hi everyone, Kimeyos here.
I know I haven't updated my blog in, I don't know how long. So I'm going to make this blog about how to make a cute fabric rose for any costume that maybe has one in the anime or manga.
The reason why I decided to try to make my first fabric rose was the small fact that my cosplay that I finished for this years conventions needed a fabric rose for the front of her dress. Oh, yea hehe the anime/manga character that I picked for this year was Lucy Heartfilia from Fairy Tail. The costume is her royal gown when she went back to meet her father with her resolve. I picked this one because I like the dress personally, I dreamed about making this dress for a few years now but was nervous to do it.
I got a bit sidetracked there. I will post a video of a lady, I learned this off of if you get lost in me trying to explain it. So the way to do a cute fabric rose, you need the following things:
1) Fabric. Not just any type of fabric. It has to be a Man Made fabric like satin. No straight cottons will do, they burn.
2) Scissors
3) A candle ( doesn't have to be scented or anything.)
4) An object that is a circle like a spool of thread.
5) Hot glue and Hot glue gun
So what you need to do first besides getting the fabric and colour of fabric you want. Fold the Fabric into 4 layers, use the spool of thread or whatever object you which and put it on the folded fabric. Cut the fabric around the spool of thread. It doesn't matter if the circle is a perfect circle. Do this the same for 3 more times But make bigger circles by cutting around the circles you did from the spool of thread on fabric.
Once you have your different sizes of circles, lay them out in their sizes in a row. Take each size and cut the bottom of each in a straight line.
Next. Light a candle. Be very careful with this part because you can burn yourself. Also this part can take a few minutes to complete. Once the candle is lit, take a single circle can hold the edge close to the flame, do not keep it there too long, slowly turn the fabric from the curved edges to the beginning of the cut straight. The straight end does not need to be burnt. Do this until all circles are curled.
Next:Take the smallest size, one piece and curl it in on itself by making sure the curled burnt edges are pointing away from you. Use the Hot glue gun and use a very little bit of hot glue on the inside of the fold to keep it together. Also this part you can burn yourself on too.
Next: Take the piece you just make and take a small piece again but this time, we will be putting it on the outside of the piece you just made. So place the unglued piece from the start half way from the back of the first piece to the front of it. Use the hot glue on both sides of the petal looking thing. So basically you repeat this with all the petal from smallest to biggest, always remember start from half way from the back of the last petal to the front of the last petal you placed.
Lastly : If you are wanting you place it on a dress like I did, take a small piece of fabric cut it into a small square or circle and hot glue it down to the back of the fabric rose, where you see all the folding on the bottom. Take a sew on clip and hot glue the one end to the square or circle piece that is hot glued to the under side of the fabric rose. Take the other side of the sew clip and put it on your dress or head piece.
It should look like this in the end. Note: this was the under finished part of my dress.
This is the link to the video. This lady helped me a lot and I can't thank her enough. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ex97o5FdK7k
If you guys want me to post something else like how to make something or how to pick a character to cosplay as, just comment and I will try my best to answer any questions.
Until Next time. Take care and Cosplay on!
