Uh-oh. You're a little late for Halloween and weren't really counting on going out – and there's no way you're going to put on your cosplay and go drinking. So what are you going to do?
You're going to do animal face paint, that's what. Here's how we did it.
Things you'll need:
Foundation
White eyeshadow or facepaint
Black eyeshadow
Black eyeliner
Mascara
Eyeshadows or facepaints in the colours of the animal you're doing
First of all you need a reference picture. We picked a grey owl and a cheetah. The picture has to be head-on and of an adult animal – this will make it easier to pick out characteristics.
Next up you take your foundation and cover your entire face – you'll need a good base for the rest of the makeup. Nans swears by Rimmel's ”Wake me up” - it's light, easy, and sometimes you shimmer like a Twilight vamp, which is good fun. Also make sure to cover your lips a bit. If you're supposed to be wearing a wig, put on the wig cap before you start this.
After this you take your white eyeshadow and do all the white lines on the animal – in case of the grey owl it's in the corner of the eyes, under the eyebrows and all the way down the sides of the nose. On the cheetah it's under eyebrows, under eyes, and around mouth.
Now you have your proper base, it's time for shadowing. The cheetah needs brown over most of the forehead, over the cheekbones and the nose and ends up looking a bit... exotic. The grey owl needs more contouring, so we draw the edge of the face feathers and fill in the area with more white.
Eye makeup is next for both of us – the grey owl is quite dark around the eyes, and so is the cheetah. Copious amounts of eyeliner, mascara, and eyeshadow goes in this step.
Finally we're getting to the really fun part – facial markings. The grey owl needs all the facial feathers, the beak and the black feathers defined, while the cheetah needs facial markings and spots.
Almost there! Finish up by putting on eventual wigs and/or costumes and take silly pictures for the heck of it. You're an animal, act like it!
