12 albums seems like someone should do something special leading up to interrobang’s release. I mean I guess they are having a listening party which seems kinda special. Idk maybe I’ll watch Fading West the night before considering I’ve actually been wanted to watch it lately.

Love this song so much by Switchfoot.  Especially in today’s political climate, I feel like this song is needed more so than ever.  This version, the acoustic one with only Jon Foreman, has such a powerful impact, and it showcases the words perfectly.  We make the world how it is, so every day is a chance to change the world.  Everything we do has an impact, and it is in a way our religion.

Fading West: An Album Analysis

Fading West is easily one of my favorite Switchfoot albums of all time. From the day it came out, this is my favorite album to just put on, crank up, and sing along. It’s a fun album with a lot of heart!

Which leads me to my thesis. Well, not my thesis, they straight up say this is the point of the album and documentary in the documentary. Love is worth the fight. Other than Love Alone Is Worth The Fight, What It Costs and The World You Want both have strong ties to this thesis. Yes, What It Costs isn’t on the Fading West album, but it is in the documentary, so I’m using it.

Who We Are is a song that I love for it’s theme of the innocence of youth, but I also love how it’s a song about fighting for self-love, fighting to love who you are.

When We Come Alive is for the love of being alive, the love of being able to grow into who you are.

Say It Like You Mean It is very much a song about ignoring the BS and doing what you love, despite (or to spite) the critics.

Slipping Away is about losing that fight for something you love, losing hope. Sometimes the fight slips away from you, and you can’t get it back.

Ba55 is the fight for freedom, and finding love in that freedom.

Let It Out is so much fun, and I’m pretty sure my favorite version is the hot air balloon version. It’s a great song about letting go of the baggage of the fight, taking a breath and remembering the things you love.

All Or Nothing At All, another one of my favorites to crank up and sing along, about wanting to get everything out of the fight, about making the most of this life.

Saltwater Heart, a love song for the beach, surfing, good weather, and good company.

And finally, Back To The Beginning Again. The beginning, when love is easy and not a fight.

Love Alone Is Worth The Fight. I love this song so much, because it’s so true. There’s a lot of things we have to fight for, and fight about, in our lives, but love is the most important of them. Love for our family, our friends, for the life we’re living and the things we enjoy. Part of that fight means wholeheartedly embracing love. No matter how knocked down, no matter how beat up, we keep fighting for love.

The thing is, every fight has a cost. What It Costs is a beautiful, heartbreaking song (thanks, Tim). The cost of loving deeply, unconditionally, is that sometimes, we’re going to get hurt. It hurts to see our loved ones hurting, it hurts to sacrifice for love. We have to decide if the cost of the fight is worth the end result, but for love, it is worth it.

A fight has a goal. Love, yes, is part of that goal, but it isn’t the only part of that goal. The World You Want talks about fighting for a better world because of love. Love for each other, love for the world, love for what we could have if we could work on the problems. Love as the inspiration to fight for a better world, because we need something to fight for. Love as the end goal of our fight, because we always need love in our lives.
