An adult clan cat of at least 30 moons of age appointed by The Council to lead their clan. Kings (or sometimes referred to as Queens if so preferred) and are gifted 4 lives (one for each God) by StarClan. Their personality is a reflection of their clan’s and describes how their clanmates treat others. The word of the clan leader is law, proclaimed by the warrior code, and all other cats in the clan must obey them. They have their own den, and are assisted by their council of Leads (called The Council) in their tasks. They are responsible for the entirety of their clan, calling clan meetings, appointing cats to new ranks, and making the toughest decisions. Each Clan has one King, and their names end with the suffix -star. (Examples: Eaglestar, Draugrstar, Puckstar). King’s, after being anointed in the Celestial Pool and speaking with StarClan, receive a leader mark somewhere on their body. This varies from cat to cat, but what is consistent is NymphClan Kings develop a flower pattern (ex: Puckstar has flowers in his pupils), HarpyClan develops a wing pattern (ex: Eaglestar’s sides have a pelt pattern that resembles wings), and GoblinClan gain tusks (Draugrstar’s large upper canines).
Duties include: Overseeing daily operations of the Clan and giving orders such as organizing patrols, call and lead clan meetings, speak on behalf of their clan at Gatherings, lead the clan in battles, appoint new positions once apprentices have finished their training as well as appoint apprentices and assign them to mentors, counsel the senior warriors and listen to their reports, solve conflicts between members of the clan, discuss prophecies and omens with their clan's prophet, and listen to their advice, dealing with politics/conflicts that happen out of the clan, but can still threaten the clan, and decide if a non-clan cat can join the clan.. A leader is also expected to occasionally carry out warrior tasks, such as going on patrols or mentoring apprentices should they assign one to themselves.
A (typically adult) clan cat chosen by the Gods to speak to StarClan, interpret omens and prophecies, and give council to cats who need guidance. Prophets are held in incredibly high regards- their power extending just below that of the King. There has only been known to be one prophet per clan at a time. Once a new prophet has been chosen, the old prophet is effectively retired and is expected to mentor the new one.
Duties include: receiving and interpreting prophecies and omens, attending Gatherings and Half-Moon Meetings to speak with StarClan and the other prophets, provide advice to cats who need it, and be a part of The Council for the King.
A clan’s council consists of five members, each one being a Lead in each role in their clan (along with the clan's prophet): lorekeeper, healer, warrior, and weaver/digger/scout; when a Council member retires or passes away, a new cat is elected to take their place. This cat must have mentored at least one apprentice and be approved by the King. To become a council member, a cat may offer themselves up for the position, or be recommended. The clan then votes using stones, with a yes pile, and a no pile. If the consensus is no, they move on to the next applicant. If yes, the remaining council and King converse and make an ultimate decision. Once a cat has been approved, they must agree to their vows to serve their clan and their king to the best of their ability.
Duties include: assisting and counseling the King, speaking on large clan decisions, planing clan battles, facilitating clan votes and elections, planning for clan events such as festivals, naming ceremonies, weddings, and funerals, celebrations of life, and electing a new King/council member when a King/council member retires, passes away, or is banished.
Adult clan cats (at least 12 moons old) who are charged with the responsibility of feeding and protecting cats who are elderly or otherwise unable to leave camp. Warriors have been trained in the ways of fighting and hunting in addition to the ways of the warrior code.
Duties include: patrolling and marking borders, evicting or chasing out trespassers, camp security, hunting to feed their clan, and serving in offensive situations.
Adult clan cats who treat diseases and injuries. They have their own den in their Clan's camp, where they sleep, store herbs, and treat wounded or sick cats. While Healers serve their own clan, they are encouraged to stand apart from Clan rivalries, as it is their oath to cure the sick and wounded above all else, as well as potentially trade herbs with healers from other clans when needed.
Duties include: knowledge of herbs and their uses, keeping herb storage full, freshly stocked, and organized, assisting monarchs during pregnancy and birth, checking up on the vulnerable (sick, kittens, elderly, etc.), and have a base knowledge of hunting and fighting.
Adult clan cats (at least 12 moons old) who are charged with keeping record of their clan’s history and stories. Each clan has their own way of doing so (HarpyClan writes and sings songs, GoblinClan paints murals, and NymphClan performs plays). This also includes keeping the histories up to date with more current large events as well.
Duties include: being masters of their craft in storytelling, keeping up to date on archival records, running festival presentations, and having a base knowledge of hunting and fighting.
An adult cat who is either expecting, nursing, or otherwise caring for kits. Upon becoming a queen, cats will temporarily give up their status as a warrior, including duties, and move into the nursery (usually 1 moon prior to giving birth) until their kit(s) become apprentices. Monarchs tend to share the duty of caring for all of the Clan's kits- specifically cats who decide to be monarchs full time. After their kit(s) reach the age of six moons and are assigned a mentor, monarchs generally resume their warrior duties. Cats who decide to stay in the nursery full-time are referred to as permanent monarchs. These cats do not always have young kits, but instead prefer to take a more active role in assisting pregnant queens with their litters.
Duties include: feeding and generally taking care of kittens (theirs or others) residing in the nursery, assisting other queens, occasionally hunting as warriors do, have a base knowledge of fighting to protect the nursery and the kits residing there, and having a base knowledge of diagnosing minor illnesses to care for sick kittens in case there are a lack of healers.
Adult clan cats who are charged with the responsibility of keeping watch over HarpyClan territory. These cats must have exceptionally good climbing skills and keen eyes. Similar to that of warriors, scouts take the high ground when patrolling (as they also do border and hunting patrols) and are in charge of creating and updating maps of territory. They also are in charge of strategizing for battles.
Duties include: being able to scale great heights- be that trees or cliffs, have better than-average eyesight and/or a keen sense of observation, create and update existing maps of territory, and craft battle strategies.
Adult clan cats in charge of enhancing camp defenses. While weavers also do the duties of typical warriors such as going on hunting and border patrols, they are also in charge of protecting the wider territory as whole with setting traps involving netting along the border as well as insulating the camp as well as their gardens from predators (though also leaving small enough gaps for pollinators). They are also in charge of camp decor and fashioning the King’s crown and the Prophet’s shroud for ceremonies.
Duties include: weaving covers for camp and the gardens, crafting booby traps, insulating dens, crafting decor, creating nets for fishing and carrying smaller items.
Adult clan cats who are in charge of crafting and maintaining the tunnel walls that make up GoblinClan camp and outer territory. They are also in charge of strategizing underground attacks and maintaining protections from fae within their borders as opposed to warriors, who maintain near the outer borders with the other clans. They also are known to work in tandem with the lorekeepers and craft cave paintings depicting different stories of the past.
Duties Include: reinforcing tunnels for the clan camp as well as any within the territory, collaborate with lore keepers on crafting and maintaining cave paintings, strategizing underground attacks, maintaining and reinforcing fae protective markers and acting as the first lines of attack against fae.
A clan cat six moons or older in training to be a warrior, healer, lorekeeper, or weaver/scout/digger. Each young cat is assigned a mentor in their chosen field of study and all apprentices' names end with the suffix "-paw" (ex: Flowerpaw, Beakpaw, Lionpaw, etc.) which symbolizes the path their paws are on, until they receive their full name. Most apprentices just have the suffix "-kit" taken off their name and replaced with "-paw", but in special cases, their name completely changes (ex: Hopkit's changed to Scarpaw). An apprentice receives their full title once their mentor or their King thinks they have learned enough or proved they are capable enough and do not need further tutelage.
Duties include: training with their mentors, going hunting, going on border patrols and hunting patrols with other cats of their clan, and looking after the elders (mostly taking ticks out of their pelts and collecting moss).
A young cat under the age of six moons who is still living in the nursery with their parent/caretaker and littermates. Kits are usually looked after by all monarchs. Kits are usually very mischievous and energetic and are known to bother warriors and elders. However, they tend to be interested in the stories the elders tell. Most kits are eager to begin their apprenticeship before they reach six moons of age and very curious about what happens outside their camp. A kit's name generally ends with the suffix '-kit' (ex: Bluekit, Snowkit, or Dovekit).
An old adult clan cat who has served their clan faithfully, but has now retired. They are wise and are held in high respect by the other cats; their counsel and knowledge is sought several times, even by Kings, though they are often described as grumpy. They do not have to catch their own food, nor do hunting patrols or fight, except to defend if necessary.
Duties include: rubbing herbs on a cat's body when they have passed away to disguise the scent of death, help defend the Clan, especially kits, when necessary, take deceased cats out of camp to bury them, tell stories about Clan life as it was when they were growing up, and pass down stories about significant events before and during their lifetime.
