3 Top Trends of 2016 Fall Couture
After the fall 2016 couture shows during the first week of July in cities ranging from Paris to Rome, certain 1940’s styles have definitely made a comeback this upcoming autumn.
Certain techniques that also stem from the 1940s era include various forms of featherwork and stunning floral embellishments that definitely highlight old school elegance. Here are the top 5 trends that made their way onto the runway and hopefully in your shopping bag.
Empire Waist
Fashion giants such as Fendi and Dolce & Gabbana have both reinstated the empire high-waisted style in many of the dresses. Empire is a fitted bodice ending just below the bust, giving a high-waisted appearance, and a gathered skirt which offers somewhat flowy appeal to the outfit.
These showcased dresses often had sheer layers of fabric, in addition to lace and gold or silver colored sequins.
40’s Suit
Along with the empire waist making a comeback, various elements of the classic 40’s suit are newly apparent from designers such as Schiaparelli and Gaulthier. Unlike the traditional 40’s suit, these modern suits often have different patterns, while also experimenting a bit with materials such as suede.
Plumes
While designers from all corners of the world usually use a great deal of featherwork in their new collection, some fashion giants took feathers to an entirely different, more complex level. With plumes or feathers commonly used in the 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s, this fancy accessory is slowly making a strong comeback in haute couture in even cities in southern Italy such as Naples. Some bride wedding dresses designed by Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld integrated soft, apricot colored feathers into their stunning runway pieces.
