Rant time: Singstar demo included with the PS3 4.30 update.
A lot of people are angry about this.
If you don't know, the newest update for the PS3 also installs a Singstar icon on the XMB (Cross media bar) in your games tab. Several things about this annoy me.
1) It seems like desperate advertising. Singstar isn't exactly the biggest selling game and it's trying to compete with Just Dance. It's doing this wrong however by pissing off the people they want to buy it.
2) The icon is wider than any other icon. This is only minor but annoying.
3) It wasn't optional. It was loaded in with the update and is a demo to a game I don't want. But this on it's own wouldn't be so bad, except...
4) It cannot be removed. Yeah, that's why I'm annoyed. Not only is it placed above the games I actually want to play, but I can't even remove it. I can't even move it into another folder. It's stuck there, reminding me that it's no longer my choice to have it there or not.
I'm not the only person annoyed by this move.
There is an announcement about this hidden somewhere on the playstation network website. Whilst the comments are initially positive, they very quickly become filled with the voices of angry people when they realise this wasn't optional.
Perhaps the worst part about this, the part which has made me angrier about the whole situation, is the responses of the PR person. Her name is Nina something or other and she should be fired.
When people said they weren't happy about it, her generic response was 'You'll love it if you try it.' When people explained that they don't want to try it, or have previously tried it and not enjoyed it she was damn rude. Her tone was patronising. One comment sticks in my mind. They were saying something about how they'll just keep whining until Sony acknowledges that people aren't happy, to which she replied:
'Well you'll be whining for a looooong time then.'
She is supposed to be a PR professional. She is supposed to be protecting the reputation of the company, and she's treating peoples concerns like shit. She did eventually 'apologise'. It wasn't a real apology, it was an 'Well I'm sorry you feel like that' kind of thing, where she clearly got told what to say and didn't quite know why.
I know this isn't anything major, but it's still frustrating. All I want to do it either have the option to delete it or have it moved into the Music folder.
