🌱+🪴+🌵 for the plurality ask game!
🌱 (seedling) - How did you discover you were plural?
i sorta pulled a jules gill-peterson and studied it extensively until the reality of my own plurality couldn't be ignored. also, there was the way that i realized plurality is a conceptual framework and not an ontological truth (much like being trans!) and thus i am free to understand plural as the thing we are without concerned for being 'plural enough' or adhering to a specific set of diagnostic criteria.
🪴 (potted plant) - If you have a headspace, what is that like? If you don't have a headspace, where do system members normally hang out?
i wouldn't say it's anything actively mappable. i think it's more like backstage/wings/onstage, with people in different roles hanging out in back or getting ready to jump on when needed. of course, to extend the metaphor, there's plenty of choking/forgetting lines/wardrobe malfunctions involved!!!
🌵 (cactus) - Do system members have disagreements with each other? How do you resolve them, if so?
yes, all the time. i think we're trying to work out something less abusive and hierarchical right now, so that people historically excluded fro decision making or scapegoated for bad things are no longer blamed for the harms they incurred. so far, it's mostly been a matter of listening & allowing ourselves, collectively, a wider range of emotions and emotional expressions than were previously permissible.
My memory is a little hazy, but I believe I initially followed you for your cute and gentle posts, and it has been a privilege to read your reflections on (anti)psychiatry, disorderly eating, and identity. I learned about the concept of mirror pronouns from you, and that was an extremely joyous moment for me!
it has been such a delight to know you! <3 i think of you often and it is always nice to know another person is here + gentle + working hard to keep living in the midst of disorderly eating and Madness. <333333
14 & 23? :-)
what's a hobby you'd like to get into?
i would love to get into board games tbh, but i'm really really bad at understanding the rules and implementing them consistently! same with TTRPGs.
what's the coolest place you've visited?
probably the great wall of china!!! or the hassan II mosque in morocco, one of the world's biggest!!!
12, 14, & 22 !!
what’s some good advice you want to share?
answered but another piece of advice (writing-specific but maybe applicable to other arts) is that habits should be your priority. making creativity a habit, even if individual sessions are 'unproductive,' is super vital to keeping your practice alive, and WAY more important in the long run than individual per-session output.
what’s something you’ve always wanted to do but maybe been to scared to do?
i really want to run a marathon (and am headed there with my half in june!). also have really wanted to try coke but someone with My Personality and Psyche should stay far away from that stuff lmao
say 3 things about someone you love
about @estuarry on the off chance they see this (rarely on tumblr anymore but we partially met on here and have loved each other for more than a decade)
is incredibly thoughtful and reflective. elliot sits with new information and lets it marinate + takes their time before responding. they're incredibly good at meaningful conversations in that way.
they are so strong - physically and emotionally. i've seen them at their points of deepest vulnerability and now in their confidence as a tradesperson working on their mental and physical health. i think it's rare to find someone so consistently resilient who keeps their kindness intact.
their generosity. with their time, attention, and gifts of kind words + little trinkets. they will happily inconvenience themself for people they love, and have done so for me many times. there's no catch or punishment, it's just what they do.
2, 3, 8, & 15!!
What movie have you watched most recently? What did you think of it? I watched Weapons on the plane a couple weeks ago and found it quite good, though (like most horror movies) not particularly scary? i think the most frightening part was the way all of the parents turned on the female teacher when they believed she was involved in somehow corrupting The Children, which was quite a blatant rehash of satanic panic stuff - but given the twists & indictment of the family later on in the film, pretty well done.
What are you looking forward to right now?
tomorrow i'm chatting with a colleague about digital humanities research + blogging scholarship, which is one of my fav things to talk about (hence my tumblrina phd). i'm looking forward to it!
favorite month of the year and why?
september is up there bc of fall + the start of the term!! i also love may!
What's a piece of advice you find yourself giving a lot?
constantly telling people to just do it scared. especially when it comes to things that they want to do but are too self-conscious to - submit to lit mags, dress in clothes that match their gender, change their pronouns, reach out for help. doing it scared = taking the first step to neutralizing the fear, and realizing that other people are more excited to support you than you think.
9, 16, & 40?
9. favorite smell in the summer?
flowers/ in the rain!!! i also love the smell of campfires but i was in california 5 years so i also associate the smell with anxiety now :(
16. most comfortable position to sit in?
if criss cross applesauce has no fans i am dead!!!
40. weirdest thing to ever happen at your school?
i think when i was a sophomore?? in college, some republicans on facebook called my college a "marxist lesbian indoctrination camp", to which students responded (of course) by making a t shirt. ALAS I CAN'T FIND IT BUT JUST TRUST ME BRO AND FURTHERMORE @lesbianlizzybennet @hijabbitch CAN BACK ME UP IT WAS REAL
21, 41!!
something you’ve kept since childhood?
