Saving Grace by CptnBara. Easily one of the pillars of the fandom, it's the entire book written from Rocky's pov and tied into the canon lore so well that it might as well be canon. Absolutely incredible. 108k, 22 chapters, warning for book spoilers if you want to finish reading that first but I cannot recommend it enough.

Red Thread Tying Us Together by alatarmaia4, incredible time travel fic that starts out going exactly where you think it will and then abruptly decides to not do that. Absolutely delightful love it so much

Discordant by EvieNyx, equally awesome time travel that takes the concept in the complete opposite direction. Grace thinks he's dreaming and continually confuses the crap out of everyone he interacts with

The entire Platonic cuddling series by Likelightinglass, some fantastic touch-starved Grace and Rocky figuring out how to fix it. Lots of fluff and soft feels with some solid hurt/comfort mixed in

Message in a Beetle by ConalltheLibrarian. Eva Stratt pov, the beetles come back to Earth. Does and incredible job of dealing with the lingering guilt and other emotions the people on the project have to deal with after sending the Hail Mary off

Unconventional Social Group by Clare_Hope, extremely good, collection of moments as Grace & Rocky travel to Erid and keeps almost making me cry and/or explode

An Empty Space and a Formless Shape by stormpetrel, fantastic species swap au. it's so good.

Featuring Grace and Rocky have a hard time and learning a lot about each other, and Rocky gets to see pretty things.

project hadea is so good and feels so well thought out every single run through its so amazing!!! how did you come up with a plot after you had the broad outline?

my secret is i'm bad at coming up with plots - the storyline of hadea is fairly straightforward, with all the twists coming from the characters and interactions, rather than the events. my outline for hadea is just a few pages of bullet points, with variations for different chapters and scenes, and a lot of it is essentially reverse-engineered from the premise ("wouldn't it be fucked up if you had an AI chip in your head and someone stole it?") - I like to leave myself a fair amount of room for improvisation when I'm writing, with only the major plot points sketched out before I start a chapter.

one issue i do have with that approach is that i do sometimes add in/come up with whole branches that I then realise don't make sense and have to take out😔it's a fair amount of trial and error, if i'm being honest, but a lot of hadea's plot came to me as a fairly logical sequence of events (believe it or not), with more complexity coming as the characters developed.

i sorta pulled a jules gill-peterson and studied it extensively until the reality of my own plurality couldn't be ignored. also, there was the way that i realized plurality is a conceptual framework and not an ontological truth (much like being trans!) and thus i am free to understand plural as the thing we are without concerned for being 'plural enough' or adhering to a specific set of diagnostic criteria.

i wouldn't say it's anything actively mappable. i think it's more like backstage/wings/onstage, with people in different roles hanging out in back or getting ready to jump on when needed. of course, to extend the metaphor, there's plenty of choking/forgetting lines/wardrobe malfunctions involved!!!

yes, all the time. i think we're trying to work out something less abusive and hierarchical right now, so that people historically excluded fro decision making or scapegoated for bad things are no longer blamed for the harms they incurred. so far, it's mostly been a matter of listening & allowing ourselves, collectively, a wider range of emotions and emotional expressions than were previously permissible.
