so i drew some mermaids
okay but imagine:
The Little Mermaid joining the Willis
Odette joining the Willis
Ophelia joining the Willis
i just had the silliest idea of fairytale authors as teenagers on the Internet and i need to draw this now
TELL ME ABOUT THEM *curls up in blanket* go on. Tell me about the obscure fairytales you've come across
oKAY MY TIME HAS COME
first off is the Juniper Tree, which is a really popular yet still obscure tale. it’s great as heck though it’s really macabre, and if I had to trigger warning it, it would be for abuse, filicide, cannibalism and murder, so obviously it’s a terrible tale. But the imagery is beautiful and everyone gets their just-deserts, so it’s great in general. Here’s a version of it
(in terms of ever after high, I have two dorks from the Juniper Tree, who are Avian and Icarus Juniper. i love them..)
Iron Hans is also a huge fave of mine. its about a cursed prince helping out another cursed prince, and eventually the prince’s curse is broken, and the other prince gets married. It’s super sad at the beginning but also super cute.
Honestly The Devil with Three Golden Hairs is one of my favourites. read it as a child, and never forgot it. One of the best things about it is that the Devil has a sweet little grandmother who’s very adorable and helpful. Plus, the protagonist is very likeable, going through hell and back for his wifey~
In terms of D’Aulnoy, I really really really love Princess Mayblossom, oh my god. right now I’m trying to work on an EAH OC of the Ambassador from the story, so I’ve been reading into it heaps. It’s a really lovely story about a cursed princess in a tower and her shenanigans when she is finally released. She has a really unexpected love interest, which is a pretty great twist.
The Ram, or the Wonderful Sheep, is also really sweet. Basically another Beauty and the Beast variation, and I really adore the Enchanted Husband trope.
OKAY SO The Yellow Dwarf is definitely on my favourites list, and it’s about a stunningly beautiful princess who’s also very arrogant. she promises to marry a dwarf, but breaks that promise, which has dire consequences for her. It’s a tale of lost love and other things, and it has a VERY BADASS FAIRY.
Whelp, there’s a lot more, but these are probably some of my main faves. I tried to describe them without spoiling anything, so hopefully i wasn’t too confusing
U SHOULD TOTALLY WATCH THE SHITTY CGI SNOW QUEEN MOVIE JOIN ME IN ENJOYABLY POORLY-WRITTEN HELL (it's on netflix if u want to!)
I WILL JOIN YOU IN THIS ICY HELL
i hope watching the movie isn’t as painful as a mirror shard in your eye (which technically didn’t hurt at all BUT) but why is the thief girl a pirate, i’m so confused
also it looks sos hitty i’m going to have fun watching an illegal version of it because nz only just got netflix and i’m not going to bother buying it lol
The Seven Ravens, Beauty and the Beast, and Peter Pan :)
The Seven Ravens:Â Do you have any siblings? How is your relationship to them?
I have a little brother and he’s the best thing in the world. He’s tiny and precious and he’s also my best friend.
Beauty and the Beast:Â What makes a person beautiful in your eyes?
I think confidence is pretty attractive. I mean, it’s easier to hang out with someone who genuinely believes in themselves because they’re usually inspirational and fun to hang out with. Even if they’re not really confident about themselves, seeing them trying to be more confident is really cool.
Peter Pan:Â What is your (mental) age?
I don’t really believe in the concept of a mental age because people’s brains develop at different paces so having the idea of a mental age is a tad ableist. But I’m 16 years old and I think I’m probably 16 mentally because I’m in the awkward teenage stage where all I want to do is cry and eat food.
