Contemporary Middle East Painting
Jazeh Tabatabai (Iran, 1931 - 2008)Contemporary Middle East PaintingOil on canvas100 x 70 cm1970'sJazeh Tabatabai, the distinguished Iranian sculptor, and painter, continued making his particular paintings and sculpture for about half a century. With his personal imagination and irony and through the use of new innovative materials, he creates extremely modern artwork which have, in their spirit, an inescapable connection with the past. His attitude in painting is a modern attitude. Through applying flat colors and with simplified succinct drawings, he depicts his favorite original and gentle subjects. In constructing his sculptures, he selects scrupulously discarded metal objects such as automobile and bicycle parts, home appliances, broken watches, and screws and bolts welding them into birds, human and animal figures, and pleasant imaginary creatures.
