Faith = spiritual muscles
Every one has muscles, but not every one exercises them. Taking in food provides the platform for potential muscle growth, but exercising the muscles is still key to actual growth.
Faith is like spiritual muscles. Romans 12:3 mentions that God gives to each a varying measure of faith. Just like every one has some muscles, every one has some faith too.
Every one has faith, but not every one exercises them. Taking in spiritual food through learning from the Word provides the platform for faith to potentially grow, but exercising faith is still key to actual growth.
There is no weak faith. There is only under-exercised faith. Whether it is deciding to be water baptised, or setting aside income to pay tithes, or discipling people to grow in their trust in Jesus Christ, or praying for miracles in Jesus name, or standing up against gossip and refusing to take part… we got to exercise our faith by putting it into action. Action! Move it! Work it!
Muscles that are under-exercised can hardly sustain any physical activity, they are of little or no use. Similarly, James 2:14-26 says that faith that lacks action is useless. God gives each person faith to use it. I am sure we desire to be useful in the Kingdom of God, and the good news is that we can decide to be useful - by trusting God and living it out!
It is good to take plenty of food, but remember to work out as well. And we got to exercise in increasing measure, so that our faith (aka our spiritual muscles) will keep growing stronger.
For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. (Romans 12:3 NIV)
